How to open a Microsoft Word file. Correctly opening a damaged Word file. Microsoft Word functionality

Everyone knows that when working with text documents in Microsoft Office Word 2003, files are saved with the doc extension. But times change, new programs are created with additional functionality and Microsoft is no exception. New versions of programs have been created Microsoft Office 2007/2010/2013, which are saved with the new docx extension. Therefore, office workers and ordinary users wondering how to open docx.

Every person does not like change, because new program, for example, the interface may change, but why change something that has long become familiar. But what if you have MS Word 2003 installed on your computer, and your colleague or friend gave you a file with the docx extension, but it is not possible to open it, since the MS Word 2003 version cannot open the format created in Microsoft versions Office 2007/2010/2013. Therefore, these users cannot open docx files.

I will offer you 3 ways to solve this problem. Whichever one will be closer to you, choose the one.

Ask the user to resave the document

IN new versions MS Word can save files with the *.doc extension; to do this, you need not just click on the save button, as we usually do, but indicate with what extension you want to save the file.

Now select the file type: “Word 97-2003 *.doc Document” and then click the “Save” button.

This method is suitable for those users who can ask another user for this action. After he saves it in the desired file type, he can safely send you this document, because this time you will successfully be able to open it and make changes to it.

Add-on package for Microsoft Office

How to open a docx file if you can't ask a friend to forward the file? This option actually solves the problem. You don't have to ask anyone! By installing this software on the computer, you will do everything yourself.

The problem that we are now dealing with is not only yours, and therefore Microsoft created it specifically for such users software compatibility, with which you can open files created in MS Word 2007/2010/2013 without any problems. After installing this package, you will be able to save files in Microsoft Office 2003 and then work with this document.

The compatibility pack can be downloaded. Check the box below and click “Continue”.

The installation of the package will begin. After installation, a message will appear indicating that the installation is complete. Click "OK".

We are trying to open files that until recently could not be opened.

Free on-line service

Above we figured out how to open docx. But also don’t forget about services that can come in handy when you don’t have time to download and install programs.

The last method I wanted to talk about is online converter. There is such a wonderful site with which you can do the conversion for free docx file in doc.

So, first we need to indicate which docx the file needs to be converted. To do this, click on the “Browse...” button, a window will appear where we indicate the path to the file *.docx and click the “Open” button.

If the file is small, the conversion will be quick. And when large file, the process may take a while, so keep that in mind. After uploading your file to the service, wait a couple of seconds until the message “File converted!” appears, which means the file has been processed.

To download the file, click on the “Download” button, which is located just below.

In the methods listed above, I told you how to open docx in word 2003. But if there are other programs that may be installed on your computer, then you can also use them for your own purposes. If you have the free OpenOffice text editor installed, you can use it to open/save doc and docx files. OpenOffice is free, has a user-friendly interface and can work with this format.

This brings us to the end of our short review of how to open a docx file. As I said above, the choice of how to open the file is yours.

Hello, dear readers! Today we will look at the simplest operations: how to open Word (or a document Microsoft Word), how to close it, how to turn pages and read text. You will gain the skills of a passive user, and in subsequent posts we will learn how to type and format own texts like real professionals!

I will do the entire description using the example of Word 2013. In other modern versions, the sequence of actions and appearance windows may differ slightly, but the general meaning remains the same.

How to launch Microsoft Word

Program launches just like other applications. That is, you need to find the corresponding shortcuts in the Start menu, on the desktop or in the quick panel Microsoft launch Windows. On other operating systems, launching Word is also identical to other applications.

For example, in Windows 10 you can run the program like this: Start – Microsoft Office – Microsoft Word. Naturally, the program must be installed on the computer.

How to create a Word file

Consider 3 simple ways creating a document for subsequent work with it:

  • If Word is not open - right click in any folder of yours operating system and select in context menu: Create - Microsoft Document Word. The file will appear in the folder. You can open it and start working;
  • If the program is already open, Click "File" on the ribbon and select "New". A window for creating a new document will open, where you will be asked to open a new empty document, or create one based on a template (we’ll talk about templates a little later). Select the option you need
  • At open window Microsoft Word, press Ctrl+N, which will create a new blank document

Templates in Word

Sometimes you need to create several documents with the same design and style. You don't have to every new document configure separately. It is enough to create or download a template and then just fill it with data.

So, when creating a new document, you can immediately use the built-in or custom template. To do this, in the “Create” window, find the desired template and click on its image. In this case, the created document will be immediately designed according to the selected template. This greatly simplifies your work, allowing you to create effective forms only once and use them as often as you like.

This is what the template selection window looks like

But the template is loaded onto the sheet

We will consider this topic in a separate article, but for now we move on.

How to open a Word document

And here I will offer you several methods, use the one you like:

  1. If the program is not yet running, but the directory with the file is open - double click on the file left mouse button. Word will start automatically, and your file will open with it;
  2. If Word is running and you have recently worked with the desired file, click File – Open – Recent Documents. Find in the list required file and click on it to open
  3. If the file is not in the "Recent" list, select its location on the left: On your computer, in cloud storage, in the other place. Click “Browse”, the standard one will open Windows window to open the file. Select its location in File Explorer and click Open.
  4. If the program is running, press Ctrl+O to select the file location and start working with it.

You can open several files at the same time, the program does not limit you in this.

How to open PDF in Word

Separately, I would like to touch on the issue of converting PDF to DOCX or DOC, because... it is very relevant now. On the one hand, this is simple, on the other hand, it is not always possible.

If the user saved Text Document V PDF format, it can be opened using the methods described above, but in the “Open Document” window, select “PDF Documents”.

The program will ask a few simple questions and then convert the file. Then you can work with it as with a regular text document.

But often such an operation cannot be carried out. The reasons may be:

  • The PDF file is formed not from text, but from pictures, or Word could not recognize the text;
  • The publisher has prohibited the reuse of data when converting to PDF
  • The file contains errors that Word cannot correct.

Scrolling a Word document

Once your document is open and you begin to work with it, it is important to know how to navigate through its contents. So if the document does not fit entirely on the screen, horizontal and vertical stripes scroll. By manipulating them, you can display different areas of the sheet.

By the way, if the text is wider than your screen, it is difficult to work with it even with the help of scroll bars. Eliminate this by applying the appropriate scale (more on this later).

And so, we have several ways to navigate through the content:

  1. Using scroll bars, but this is not the most convenient option
  2. Turn pages with the mouse wheel. Often users do exactly this until they learn about hotkeys;
  3. Use the Navigation menu. Press Ctrl+F to open it, after which you can select the desired headings, pages, or use a search using a combination of words
  4. Using hotkeys, knowledge of which greatly simplifies navigation through the document. Here are some of them:
Combination What is he doing
Arrows left, right, up, down Moves the cursor one character left or right, one line up or down
Ctrl+arrow Move the cursor left or right one word, up or down one paragraph
Home Cursor to the beginning of the current line
End Cursor to the end of the current line
Ctrl+Home, Ctrl+End Cursor to the beginning or end of the document
PgUp, PgDn Up or down one screen
Ctrl+PgUp, Ctrl+PgDn Cursor to the beginning of the previous sheet, to the beginning of the next sheet
Ctrl+Alt+PgUp, Ctrl+Alt+PgDn Cursor to the beginning of the window, cursor down the window
Shift+F5 Cursor to its previous location. When opening a book - show the place where you stopped last time

Screen modes in Microsoft Word

Depending on the work being performed, you can choose one of four ways to display data on the sheet. To do this, select the desired mode on the ribbon: View - View Modes(or in the status bar).

The viewing modes are as follows:

  1. Page layout– here you see the sheet as it will be printed. This is the most convenient presentation for everyday work
  2. Reading mode— Word adapts the text for comfortable reading and hides the familiar Ribbon. In this mode you cannot edit the text, you can only view it
  3. Web document– content is laid out as it would look when opened in a browser
  4. Structure– used to evaluate the structure of the entered data and its changes
  5. Draft– Displays a simplified view of the document, allowing you to concentrate on the text. I use this mode at the stage of typing complex long texts, and then in other modes I create the structure and design.

Setting the scale in Word

To ensure maximum comfort when working with a Word document, it is useful to change the display scale. This will not affect the actual page size in any way, but only how it appears on the screen. If you are working with small font, increase the scale, otherwise you will have to peer at the characters.

The program has a group of commands designed to help you set the scale in a few clicks. Find on the ribbon View – Scaleto familiarize yourself with them. There are these buttons:

  • One page– sets the scale so that one page is completely visible on the screen
  • Several pages– the display is slightly larger than the previous one, several pages are already visible on the screen
  • Fit to page width– the page will be stretched or compressed to the width of the window
  • 100% — sets the scale to one to one;
  • Scale– opens the window more detailed settings scale:

Another way to adjust the scale is to set it in the status bar. There is a slider here, dragging it to set the desired value.

Let's summarize the information presented: you already know how to create new documents and open existing ones. You will be able to move around the document and change its scale for ease of use. This means that you can proceed to more complex ones, in the next article you will find out.

As always, I’m ready to answer your questions and look forward to visiting your blog site!

At first, the question of how to open a word file may seem stupid, of course, with the Microsoft Office program. Only at the beginning, if you penetrate deeper, it turns out that everything is not so elementary.

First, there may be as many as four Word files (documents): 2003, 2007, 2010, 2013, and that’s not all. They can be in dos and dosx format ( last document much more difficult to open).

If you have Office 2013 installed, then there is nothing to say about how to open a Word file. It’s another matter if you have 2003, and the document, for example, is from 2013, then the opening may not work. What then to use?

To avoid stress once again, use in a universal way: Download and install the “FileFormat Converter” program and use it to convert documents into the format you need and open them without worry.

How to open a word 2007 file

Today, Word 2007 is most used, so I chose it as an example. Word documents of this type, like others, can be in DOS and DOSX format.

If you have the first option, but don’t have Word (it’s paid and costs a lot), there are free analogues, for example OpenOffice or Libre offce - download, install and use - all for free.

How to open a damaged Word file

It's a completely different matter if your word file turns out to be damaged. What to do then, how to open it? In order not to combine for a long time, it is best to restore a damaged Word document using a specially created Recovery program Toolbox for Word.

You can, of course, try to recover the damaged file standard means word programs(often solves the problem), but if there is Internet then better program, it is small and capable of correcting doc, docx, dot, dotx and rtf formats.

However, you can do it differently - use free utility WordRepair. You don't even need to install it. Launch it, point it to the damaged word document and press the “Repair/Open” button.

As far as I remember, there is another program for fixing it, I think it’s called “Word fix tool”. I haven't used it - you can experiment. That's all. Good luck.

In this lesson we will only get acquainted with text editor Microsoft Office Word, and in the following lessons we will look at this program in more detail. The program is very useful and multifunctional. In principle, you don’t need to know much to simply type text; even a beginner can figure it out, but we will look at the various features of this text editor.

Learning to work with Microsoft Office Word.

In the article, everything will be shown on Microsoft example Office Word 2010, but if you have Office 2007, don’t worry, in the video tutorial below the article, I showed how to do everything that was discussed in the article.

So, let's launch Microsoft Office Word.

For clarity, let's type some text. Well, or let’s copy a few paragraphs from the site and consider, how to insert text in word. Select the text and:

  • or right-click and select Copy;
  • or simultaneously hold down the Ctrl+C keys (you can read more about hot keys in).

The text has been copied to . To insert it, right-click on an empty space in the document and select Paste, or simply press Ctrl+V.

In the left top corner located office button in Word- this is the main button of the program and with its help you can perform various actions. In the 2007 version of the program, this is a round button, and in the 2010 version, there is a File tab instead.

Their functions are almost the same, only the design is slightly different. Now let's take a closer look at the contents of this button. So, press the button.

How to create a new document in Microsoft Word?

Let's first consider how to create a new word document. Click Create and select New Document.

As you can see, in addition to the document, there is also a Blog Entry, with which you can write texts for posting on the Internet if you have your own blog, that is, an online diary.

Here you can find various templates or create your own. Quite a useful thing, by the way, since often great difficulties arise when it is necessary to correctly format a business letter, advertisement, card or some other document, and here there are already blanks, you just need to type your text. Or, as already mentioned, you can create your own template, for example, a questionnaire, and send it to other people so that they fill it out. To do this, click Create, select My templates, check the Template box and click OK. Now you can create your template.

However, most users only need to know how to create a word document, but it doesn’t hurt to remember about other options. If you need it, you will know where to look.

So, let's create a new document. The blank document opens in a new window, separate from our original document.

How to open and save a Word document?

The next point will help us find out how to open a doc document. Click Open, then look for any document previously saved on your computer or downloaded from the Internet in doc format. The program itself will show the documents it supports.

A window will open in which you can select where exactly on the computer we want to save the document. And since we didn’t save it before, we also need to enter the name of the document. Enter a name that will make it clear to you what kind of document it is. Select the file type as Word Document if it is not selected by default, and click Save.

Here, the document is saved on the desktop, as we chose.

Now, when you press the Save button again, you will not need to enter a name, the program will simply update the existing document. I advise you to save the document often so as not to lose data due to a power outage or system freeze. And a little off-topic advice: try not to save important data on the desktop, in My Documents, or in general. system disk C. If something happens to the system and, say, you have to or, there is a high probability of losing data. Therefore, save on other local drives, for example, D or E.

Now let's go back to Word and look at the Save As button.

When we click, we will see the already familiar window. Here you can save a document with a different name, thus creating a copy that you can work with later without changing the original document. Here you can save the document in a different format by clicking File type and selecting the line we need.

There are many formats displayed here, but we are interested in literally 3 of them. If you have Microsoft Office 2007 or 2010, then when you select the file type Word Document, the document will be saved in docx format. In more earlier versions Word does not support this format; documents there are saved in doc format by default. So how to open a document in docx format? To do this, you will first have to open it in Word 2007 or 2010 and save it by selecting the file type Word Document 97-2003. Now the document should open on computers with any version of Word. also in in this case You can save the document as Text in RTF format. This is a fairly common format and is supported not only by all versions of Word, but also by many other text editors.

Print the Word document.

And finally, let's figure it out, how to print a document in word. To do this, select Print.

Displayed here on the left preview, that is, the type of document it will be like if it is printed. If you have several printers connected, you can choose which one you want to send the print to. To set up various parameters, such as color printing or black and white, click Printer Properties. We will not consider this point in detail, because different window settings and the settings themselves. To print a document, click the Print button with a printer image.

Now let’s quickly go over the customizable options when printing in Word.

Using this button, we select which pages we want to print: all or only the current one. You can also print certain pages, to do this you need to enter page numbers. You can enter numbers separated by a comma and a space if you need to print several pages that are not in order (for example, 1, 3, 7, 15) or separated by a hyphen to print from one page to another (for example, 7-25 ).

To print several copies of a document, write the number of copies.

Just below you can configure the order in which copies will be printed: ready-made sets, or, for example, first all the first pages, then all the second, and so on.

You can also configure single-sided or double-sided printing.

With duplex printing, the printer will print one side first, and then the screen will show instructions on how to properly flip the sheets to print on the other side.

It’s better not to touch the page size; the default is A4.

Margins, that is, indents along the edges of the pages on which nothing will be printed, you can choose ready-made ones or set your own. The smaller the margin, the more text will fit on the page. But if you have some important document, then you need to take into account certain requirements for its design and set the necessary fields.

And lastly, select the number of pages per sheet. Typically 1 page is selected, but if you want to make something like a brochure or just save paper, you can choose 2 pages per sheet. But keep in mind that the more pages, the smaller the text size.

So we got acquainted with some of the basic features of Microsoft Office Word, most of which will undoubtedly be useful to you. Study this program and consolidate the knowledge you have gained, because the ability to work with Word will always be useful and very valuable in our time digital technologies. Good luck in mastering this useful program!
