How to transfer files from PC to laptop. How to transfer files from computer to computer via Wi-Fi. Using an external hard drive

Today we will talk about an important skill that every PC or laptop user needs to master. How often do you encounter the need to transfer a file? (book, video, film) from one PC to another? You have a file that needs to be opened on another laptop. There is only WI-FI. All. No cords or USB flash drives. In our advanced world, when there are 2 or more computers in the house, very often there is a need to connect devices into one network. Is it possible to connect two computers via WI-FI network? And how to do this simply, quickly and safely?

Every confident user will give you a whole lecture about the many options for transferring files. But that's not for this article. Let's take a quick look at what available methods for the inexperienced user exist. How to quickly, without bothering with advanced methods, having only the Internet and two laptops at your disposal, transfer any type and format of a file. And which one is simple and accessible to everyone. So, I will list the most famous methods:

  • home network from 2 or more computers. We will consider this method first and in more detail.
  • Email.
  • Torrent.
  • Cloud storage.

Since we have an article about transferring files between computers via Wi-Fi, we will consider this method in detail and first.

Local network between two computers via Wi-Fi

On the topic of settings local network I have already written two instructions:

It's a useful thing. Once set up, you will no longer bother with other methods. This will allow you to seamlessly transfer files from one computer to another.

If you have (according to the “crossover” scheme, for connecting computers directly) or there is a router installed in the room, then doing this is as easy as shelling pears. It is enough that the computers are connected to the same router. It doesn't matter via cable or Wi-Fi. Or stretch a cable from one computer to another. But if it is not possible to do both, there is another solution. Create wireless network between computers. It is called . A local network is a very useful thing. Allows you to exchange files and play games.

Since I already wrote detailed instructions on the topic of setting up a local network (from the links above), then I see no reason to duplicate this information here. Go ahead and set it up.

Email

Perhaps the most ancient and still used by many method of transferring files. All of us have email. Many - and more than one. Go to your email, click - write a letter, attach a file to the new letter, send it to a friend.

Or save it for yourself as a draft. You can open it on any device by simply logging into your email. One BUT. There are restrictions for attached files. You can send a few photos or an essay. But video or large text formats are out of the question.

Torrent

A little-used but very effective method for transferring bulky files (movies, for example). Many people use this program to download files from the Internet. But you can also upload your files from your computer. To do this, you must have Torrent installed on both PC devices. Upload your file for distribution. Your friend is downloading.

Pros: no queues for downloading, high speed, the ability to stop downloading and then continue. Of the minuses: the program has access to all your programs, the download speed depends on the number of distributors. And not everyone wants to fool themselves by downloading a dubious program, and at the risk of accidentally catching all sorts of evil spirits like Amigo, mail.ru, Odnoklassniki. So, the choice is yours.

Cloud storage

Perhaps the simplest and safe way storing information with the ability to access it from any device that has access to the Internet. This is actually what these applications were created for. So that we don’t have to run from home to the office and back with a flash drive in hand. In order to protect us from unexpected loss of saved information (due to a virus or a burned out hard drive).

With the creation of these services, we now have the opportunity to store photos, documents and other files without cluttering up our computer with megabytes. Have 24-hour access to them from any gadget. And transfer files to other Internet users. This is a convenient and optimal option because it provides reliable protection for your files.

Quite often, users are faced with the need to transfer data from one PC to another. What are the available and simple ways exist? We will look at several options in this article.

There are a large number of methods for transferring data from one PC to another. This article will cover 3 categories. The first consists of methods using Internet services. The second group is based on the use of standard physical media (for example, portable hard drives). The last tool on our list is Windows home networking technology.

Method 1: uTorrent

You can easily transfer data of any size using the popular torrent client uTorrent.

  1. Launch the application.
  2. Open the folder with the desired file in "Explorer" Windows.
  3. Left-click on the desired object and, holding the button, drag it directly into the torrent client.
  4. The link creation window will appear.
  5. Press the button "Get Link" ("Create link").
  6. After some time, the distribution will be ready. A message appears indicating the operation was successful.
  7. Close this window by clicking on the cross in the upper right corner.
  8. Go to uTorrent. Opposite the distribution we created will be written "Seeding" ("Ranges out").
  9. Right-click on our distribution and select “Copy Magnet-URI”.
  10. Now the magnet link will be in the clipboard, from where you can paste it anywhere: into a message in messenger, email, etc.

The person you gave the torrent address to will need to do the following:

Method 2: Cloud services

Today there are many cloud services with easy to use: Yandex Disk, MEGA, Google Drive, Dropbox, Cloud Mail.ru. They all use the same principle in their work.

Yandex Disk

Limit on maximum size The file for downloading via the web interface is 2 GB. But using the application, you can send larger data. The amount of free available space does not exceed 10 GB.

The other one is quite convenient cloud service- Mega. In free mode, the user is provided with 15 GB of disk space.

Method 3: Email

Almost all services Email allow you to send files along with the message. The disadvantage is that attachments attached to the letter cannot be big size. Often the maximum allowed limit is 25 MB. Using Yandex Mail as an example, we will show the procedure for sending attached data via Email.

Method 4: TeamViewer

Method 5: Bluetooth

With the help wireless technology Bluetooth allows you to copy files from one PC to another. Many computers (including most modern laptops) already have a built-in bluetooth adapter. Transferring data between machines in this way requires that the function itself be enabled on both sides.

A simpler option for sending data this way is as follows:

Method 6: External storage

One of the easiest and most popular ways to transfer files between computers is to use external drives. For this purpose, flash drives, DVDs and portable hard drives are most often used.

Data transfer to flash drives and external hard drives occurs in a standard way using "Conductor" or third party file managers. DVDs require special procedures and software to burn them. Once the operation is completed, the media is transferred to another user.

You should focus on the features file systems when using flash drives.

Maximum size separate file on a FAT32 system is approximately 4 GB. NTFS theoretically has no limitations. This means that to transfer sufficiently large single data (for example, distributions modern games) you should set the appropriate markup of the flash drive. Information about the drive's current format settings can be obtained by clicking on context menu "Properties" in the window "My computer".

For using NTFS on flash drives you should:

Method 7: “Home Group”

"Home group" called a collection of computers Windows control, which provide resources for sharing.

  1. In the search bar we type "Home Group".
  2. Next, click on the button "Create a home group".
  3. In the next information window, simply click "Further".
  4. We mark (or leave as is) those elements that will be available to participants « Home group» , and click the mouse "Further".
  5. We are waiting for the completion of the permitting process.
  6. The next window will display the password to access shared resources. It can be printed.
  7. Click "Ready".
  8. Let's launch "Conductor" and click on the shortcut below "Home Group".
  9. To provide access to certain resources on the local PC, right-click on it and select any of the options. You can open or block access to any item from the selected folders for "Home group".

There are many different ways to transfer files from computer to computer. Some of them require access to the Internet, for example, copying files using a torrent client. The main advantage of such methods is the ability to transfer data over unlimited distances. On the contrary, when using external media, as a rule, file transfer occurs by passing the device itself from hand to hand. The most popular of these methods is the use of flash drives. Such media are cheap, compact and mechanically stable. Organization public access For computers on a network, it is most often used if multiple file exchanges are required.

The article describes ways in which you can transfer data from one computer to another with a guarantee of data safety and without much effort. Transfer files, settings and programs to new computer, can be difficult and intimidating for the user, especially if he does not know how to do it correctly and where to start.

Often it all comes down to the user copying the most necessary and important data from the old PC to an external storage device, and then copying it to HDD new computer. This method also exists, but it is associated with the risk of data loss during the process and/or as a result of information transfer. But what about applications and operating system settings?

In fact, there are several ways that will help you transfer data from one computer to another with better quality and with less effort, and, very importantly, with a guarantee of safety.

Data Migration Tools

There are many utilities for transferring data, settings and programs to a new computer. To use them, you just need to install such a program on both computers and use them to transfer your files, applications and settings.

A tool with this functionality is provided free of charge and by Microsoft is Windows Easy Transfer. And although, starting with Windows 10, it is no longer available as a built-in utility in the operating system, Microsoft offers to use another third party application– PCmover Express.

The principle of operation of the program is as follows: connect an external storage device to your computer and launch the application; transfer your data from your computer to an external drive and then connect it to another PC to which you need to transfer the data; run this application on a new computer and transfer data from external media to this computer.

Backup and restore files

The system's built-in File Backup and Restore tool also allows you to transfer files and system settings to another computer.

Using this tool you can create a system image. This will be a complete image of the operating system, including system files, installed programs and personal files. It is enough to simply deploy the system image that was created from the old computer on a new computer.

Just copy the files

Also, do not forget about the possibility of copying files manually, this way you can transfer personal files from computer to computer. To do this, connect an external storage medium of sufficient capacity to the computer (for example, external hard disk) and copy all the files that need to be transferred to it. After this, connect this disk to a new computer and transfer the necessary files.

If all your files on your computer are well organized and you know their location on your hard drive, then it will be difficult to implement this method you won't have it.

This way, you will be able to transfer files, but not settings. If you also need to transfer browser bookmarks, you will need to export/import them using the functions of the browser itself. All modern browsers also have synchronization functions, with which you can import all settings.

Cloud storage

Cloud storage services can store user data, settings, and other data, and do a good job of it. To do this, just install the service client on your computer and configure data saving with its help. On another computer, it will be enough to install the same client and log into the account you created earlier, and you will have access to all the data saved in it.

There are many such services at the moment, the most popular of which are Dropbox and Google Drive, as well as Microsoft OneDrive integrated into Windows. You can use any one convenient for you.

If your computer crashes

If the transition to a new computer is due to the inoperability of the old one, then the user’s personal data can also be transferred from it.

To do this, connect the hard drive of the old computer to the new one and check how it is detected operating system(it all depends on the reasons for the failure of the old PC). If it is recognized by the computer as another hard drive and all files are available for use on it, then it is enough to carry out the actions described in paragraph "Just copy the files". You can only copy them directly to the hard drive of your new computer.

If files hard drive from the old computer are not displayed, then you can restore them using the hard drive data recovery program - Hetman Partition Recovery. To do this, launch it and scan your hard drive. Save all files detected by the program to new hard computer disk.

Switching to a new computer should not be difficult for the user. Some tools even provide the ability to transfer installed programs and applications. But the most important factor in data transfer is the user's personal files, which should not be damaged or lost during the process or as a result of the data transfer. The methods described above should help the user avoid such unpleasant consequences.

Let me note right away: it doesn’t matter whether you want to transfer large files from PC to PC, from laptop to laptop, from PC to laptop, or vice versa. And it doesn’t matter - via the Internet or via Wi-Fi (it’s the same thing). Any of the options described below will suit you. Therefore, choose the one that is most convenient.

How to send large files over the Internet?

Transferring files from laptop to laptop or from PC to PC is no problem. But transferring a large file is already a problem. Why?

  1. Postal services can only send small documents. For example, using mail.ru you can send files up to 25 MB in size by mail. Anything more will be transferred via a link (which is valid for a month).
  2. Skype, ICQ and other instant messengers are also not an option. Even a 1.4 GB movie will take forever to transfer. And then you may see the message “Oops, download interrupted. Sorry, we're not in business."
  3. Various file hosting services have long been outdated. And the speed of 30 Kb/s is just ridiculous. You will download the picture for half an hour.

Today there are much better options. Let's start, perhaps, with the simplest and most popular.

How to quickly transfer a large file via µTorrent?

If you are an active Internet user and regularly download movies, games, music and anything else, then you know 100% what µTorrent is. Most likely, you even have it installed.

  1. Select what you want to send and drag this document into the program window.
  2. In the window that appears, click the “Process” button (an error may pop up, but after clicking “OK” it will disappear immediately).
  3. Wait for the torrent file to be created.
  4. Copy the link and send it to a friend.

You must also have this program enabled, otherwise your friend will not be able to download anything.

The speed in µTorrent is limited only by your tariff, so if you have 100 Mbps, then a large torrent file will download very quickly.

How to use Yandex Disk for transfer

This is a cloud service: simple, convenient and free. Plus you don't have to install anything. All you need is to have your own mail in Yandex.

If you don’t have it, then you have 2 options to choose from: register it or choose another transfer method large file through the Internet.

Instructions in in this case also very simple:

Ready. Now your friend can download a large document at any time. You don't have to be online at all.

There is one caveat here. In this way, you can transfer files up to 2 GB in size to Yandex. If they weigh more, then use a special program for Windows. You can download it from the link provided by the service. The program is very easy to use, so understanding it will not be difficult.

Large sizes are not a problem Google Drive

Google also has a similar cloud service (how could we live without it, right?). But he is many times better. Judge for yourself:

  • you can upload files of any size (for Yandex – up to 2 GB);
  • 15 GB of free space (Yandex has 10 GB);
  • You can share the folder with any number of users.

Thus, Google Drive– an excellent option for transferring large files up to 15 GB in size over the Internet. The download speed is amazing, you won’t have to wait long.

By the way, here you can create a folder and share it with any number of friends. To do this, you just need to select it, right-click and select “Sharing”.

Enable access via the link (and send it to all people) or add their email addresses in the field below. As a result, all documents uploaded to this folder will always be visible to them. They themselves can go to Google Drive at any time and download them.

Huge files can be sent from Cloud Mail.ru

Another way is to use the service of our domestic developer.

Everything is done exactly the same here:

  1. Go to https://cloud.mail.ru/ (you must have your own mail at mail.ru).
  2. Move a large document to the Mail.ru Cloud.
  3. Select it, right-click and select “Get link”.
  4. Copy it and send it to your friends.

A big plus of the service is 100 GB of free space. But there is a limit on the size of documents - no more than 2 GB (like Yandex).

Transfer files via P2P

AND last method quickly transfer large files over the Internet – via P2P networks. This is the only option where there are no restrictions on document size, transfer speed and free space. The only thing you need is to install popular program. It is through it that the transfer of Internet files will be carried out.

  1. Install the StrongDC program and run it manually from the folder.
  2. In the new window, enter your nickname (it must be unique).
  3. Go to the Downloads tab and specify the folder where all documents will be downloaded.
  4. Next, open the Sharing tab and indicate what you want to share. There are 2 options here: either share the folder in which it lies required file, or create a new one and move it there. Be careful not to open important documents or anything else this way (after all, anyone can download them).
  5. Save the settings by clicking “OK”.
  6. Next, click the “Public Hubs” icon and go to any network (both you and your friend should go to it). In some cases, there may be restrictions: for example, to access the network, you must share at least 20 GB of information. Do you comply with this requirement or look for another network.
  7. When you log into one network, all user nicknames will be displayed on the right. Your friend needs to find your nickname, double-click the left mouse button, after which the files you shared will be downloaded. Then all that remains is to download them.

Of course, you must be online at the same time.

And another great service for transferring large files is Dropmefiles (thanks Vladimir for advice).

Main advantages:

  • transfer files up to 50 GB;
  • shelf life – up to 14 days;
  • fast download speed;
  • absolutely free.

Using this service is very simple:

  1. Upload any file.
  2. Specify the storage period (1 download, 7 or 14 days).
  3. If necessary, you can set a password.

You wait for the file to be processed, then copy the link and send it to your friends. You can enter their e-mail address here, in this service.

That's all. Good luck, and cosmic speed racing!

Photos and videos from vacation, music and films, installation files for programs and many more files and documents are stored on the modern user’s computer. And, although not often, a situation still arises when you want to send a friend a video from your last trip, installation file for some program, or, say, you need to download a file from your home computer to your work one. In this article I will tell you several ways to help you transfer a file from computer to computer.

Copying files

To do this we need a flash drive with sufficient memory capacity, CD or DVD disc. If the files take up a lot of space, you can use an external hard drive. We insert the flash drive into the USB connector and copy the data; the external hard drive is connected in the same way. We simply burn files to a CD or DVD, this may require installation special program for recording discs. Then we simply give the recorded device to a friend.

Using a network cable

Using file hosting services

This can also help you if your friends or relatives live in another city, and there is no way to directly connect two computers or transfer a flash drive. Today there are many file hosting services: Cloud Mail.ru, Dropbox, Yandex Disk, Google Drive. The essence is, in principle, the same for everyone. Previously, I already wrote an article Dropbox - what kind of program it is and how to set up Dropbox, you can read them simply by following the links. Install the selected program on both computers. Then add the required file to the local folder cloud storage, which is located on the computer, after which automatic synchronization with the cloud occurs. Next, another user launches a file hosting service from his computer, logs in using the same Mailbox and the same password as you. Synchronization is performed and a local folder with downloaded files is also created on his computer. Now he can view them, copy or even add something of his own to the folder. If you do not want to disclose your login and password, you can create a link to the file in your file hosting service and send it to a friend. In this case, he will be able to watch or download it.

You can read the article on how to set up remote access via TeamViewer by following the link. This method will also be very helpful if at work you need a file that is stored on your home computer. With TeamViewer you can easily download it. A small clarification - it is necessary that home computer in this case was included. Also, through TeamViewer, when you create a connection, you can download and view files from another computer.

That's probably all. We figured out how to transfer a file from computer to computer. Choose the method that suits you and I’m sure everything will work out.
