A program to change the Windows 10 start button. Other quick methods to make Start work

Welcome to the computer master blog site!

Today we will talk about how to return the standard, classic Start menu from Windows 7 to Windows 10, 8, 8.1.

This is quite simple to do; you only need to spend 5 minutes of your time and install one free program. So let's begin.

I don’t know about you, but I’m very annoyed by the standard Start menu in Windows 10. In my opinion, it lacks conciseness. Why do I need these tiles on the right? Xbox, MineCraft, what is it anyway? Store, games, apps I don’t need, recommendations...

And all this in a “tiled” interface. It is clear that Microsoft understands the current trend of people switching from computers to mobile devices. It's clear that it wanted to do universal system, which would be convenient to use on both a computer and a tablet. I agree, on a tablet or phone tiles are convenient, but on a laptop, without touch screen, they are completely “off topic”.

Although, we must pay tribute, in Windows 10 Start is even more or less normal, compared to Windows 8 and 8.1— few would argue that in those systems, Start was simply terrible. Basically, because of this launch, many people spat on Windows 8.

Okay tiles, they can be removed. Where is easy access to the control panel? Instead it is now “Options”. Okay, I'll figure it out, this is essentially my job, but why is this necessary? to the average user, some aunt from the accounting department, who may have completed computer courses and is used to setting up a computer through the Control Panel, but here it’s up to you to delve into everything again. Of course, the old Control Panel in Windows 10 actually exists. But we still need to look for it. I won’t say anything about the reduced functions via the panel; that’s not what the article is about.

In principle, all this can be customized to suit yourself - remove unnecessary tiles, disable the list of recommendations from the store, etc. Yes, and you can get used to everything.

But I still preferred to return the good old, “lamp” start menu from Windows 7. I don’t know, maybe I’m an OLD phage, and I don’t understand all the delights of the new interface... Write in the comments if you agree that the Windows 10 start menu is worse than it was in Seven.

In the meantime, I'll tell you, how to return the usual in Windows 10 classic Start menu from Windows 7. By the way, this method also works for Windows 8 and 8.1.

How to make the Classic START menu from Windows 7 in Windows 8, 8.1, 10 - Instructions

In order to do this, there are special programs. I recommend using the utility Classic Shell. Firstly, it is free and freely distributed. Secondly, it has many settings that allow you to customize the Start menu to suit your needs.

So first of all let's download the program. For those who don’t like to bother, you can download the latest Russian version directly on my blog. The program has been tested by me personally on many computers and checked for viruses through VirusTotal.

Paranoid people can download program to change the Win10 start menu interface on the official website classicshell.net. The program is also suitable for Windows 8 and 8.1.

After downloading the program, launch installation file and follow the installer's instructions. There is nothing complicated there, you can simply press the “Next” button. If anything is unclear, watch my video below.

After installing the program, click the Start button, a window will appear in front of us in which we can select the appearance of the Start menu:

If desired, you can set " Additional options"Start" button by clicking on the corresponding link in the window:

After all the settings have been specified, click OK. Done, now the standard classic START has returned to your Windows 10, the same as it was in Windows 7:

By the way, the metro start from Windows 10 is not going anywhere, you can call it by clicking the corresponding item at the top.

I advise you to watch the video on my Youtube channel CompBlog , which I specifically filmed on this topic.

In the comments, write down which type of Start menu you like better - new or old, and why.

When switching to Windows 10, not all users are delighted with the start menu button, especially if they were previously using Windows 7.

Yes, it is not familiar and a little confusing, but there is a way out - download another start menu button for Windows 10, and for free.

Then you will get the appearance of the seven, moreover, you will have two of them, a standard one (the one that comes with the installation) and an additional integrated one, which you can download right here (at the end of each section).

Which one to use is up to you, although they are practically no different - experiment (it is impossible to use both at once).

Download free start menu button for windows 10 - Classic Shell

Classic Shell is completely free with many settings. At first there will be no Russian language, but it can be installed directly in the program menu.

As you can see in the picture above, you will get the look exactly like the seventh version. When you open the “Classic Shell” settings, check the box at the very top, then advanced settings will become available to you.

This includes transparency, the appearance of the button itself, icon sizes, display options, and much more.

Download free start menu button for Windows 10 – Classic Shell – StartIsBack

As shown in the pictures above, start free program almost no different from the paid one.

However, StartIsBack has a grace period (trial period), so why not play around with it.

After all, if you decide to make your Windows 10 more convenient, then you undoubtedly like it.

There are many other amenities, decorations and improvements for dozens, but more on that in other posts. Good luck.

OS:
Windows 10

If you're used to the look of the Start menu or the old Start button on Windows 7 or Windows Vista, then you'll probably want to get that look back on Windows 10. There are several ways you can do this. The first method does not require you to install additional software. You can simply customize the appearance of the Start menu on Windows 10. But this will not lead to a 100% return to the classic version of the menu. The second option will require you to install additional software. This option is somewhat more complicated, but it will allow you to return 100% to the previous version of the Start menu, as well as return the usual appearance of the Start button.

How to return the classic look of the Start button and menu on Windows 10

Microsoft took into account Windows errors 8, so on Windows 10 the Start button and menu are there by default. But the appearance of the button and menu is different. If you want to return to your usual appearance, then choose one of two methods: Each option has its own advantages. There are users who do not like to install third-party programs. Especially in order to change something in operating system. These users will appreciate the method, which does not require installation of programs. But this method is not ideal, since it will only bring the appearance of Start closer to the classic one, but will not return it 100% to its previous appearance. The second method, installing the software, will return the previous appearance, but you will need to save this program on your computer as long as you need the classic appearance of Start.

Start Menu on Windows 10

The Start button on Windows 10 is located in the same place as in previous versions of the OS. This means you won't have to struggle with moving it. But the appearance of the Start menu on Windows 10 is different from appearance Start menu on Windows 10. Microsoft has made the Start menu as flexible as possible, so it looks different for each user, for example, as follows:

As you can see, on the left side of the menu are programs that have been recently used. On the right side there are so-called tiles that provide quick access to information or resources. Widgets are also displayed in this menu. Everything is very bright, flashes and distracts attention. It is this variety of information that is the reason why many want to move from standard menu Starting with a classic look.

How to bring back the classic Start on Windows 10

Everyone has their own understanding of the term “Classical”. Surveys have shown that most users consider the classic menu from Windows 7. Therefore, let’s look at an example this menu. The first way is to customize the Start menu in the image and likeness of the previous version. To do this, you need to expand the menu and right-click on those elements that you do not need, for example, on tiles:

Next, you need to select “Unpin from” home screen" and this element will disappear. Once you unpin all the elements, you will only be left with the left column. Overall, it will be similar to the classic Start menu look. But in standard settings The menu area is very wide. Therefore, we use the mouse to tighten the menu area. You can make the menu of any width, but to make the menu convenient, we recommend making it at least 4 icons below it. As a result, you will get the following menu appearance:

This is all you can do without resorting to third party programs. Agree, it looks like a classic look, but it isn't. Of course, this will suit some people, but for those who decide to go all the way, there is another way - installing additional software. This method does not require the preparatory steps described above. You need to download and install one of the programs, for example: There are other programs to return the classic menu on Windows 10. But these two are free and the best. Firstly, they only take up a few MB of space, and secondly, they allow you to return the appearance in just a couple of clicks. As a result, you should be able to get a Start menu look like this:

Agree, this is much more like the truth. But that's not all. So you returned only the Start menu. But you can also use programs to return the Start button, that is, the familiar round icon. All this can be done by the same programs. And as a result, you will get the same appearance, familiar from the days of Windows 7. But do not forget that all system decorations affect Windows performance 10, as well as for battery life.

How to return back to the standard Windows 10 Start view

If the classic appearance does not suit you, then you can always return to the previous menu view. If you were using programs, simply disable them or delete them. After this, the standard Start menu will return. After all, if there is no program, then there is no appearance that she made. And if you used the manual method and removed all the extra tiles yourself, then you just need to return the necessary tiles in the same way. Just right-click and select the widgets and blocks that you would like to see in your Start menu on Windows 10.

In the instructions on how to return the classic appearance of the Start menu, we used Windows 10 in Russian. If you have a version in English, we recommend that before you start working with the Start menu,

Hello my dear friends.

Many of my readers ask me how they can change the startup in Windows 10 so that it is more familiar. It cannot be completely changed, due to technical limitations, but today I will tell you what can help in this case. Topic of the article: menu settings start windows 10, for easier and more ergonomic work at the computer. So, let's go!

Styling for Windows 7

So, to configure the launch as in Windows 7, we need such software as classic shell. Let's download it from here. Install and launch. We need a module software, which is called Classic Start Menu. On the first page we choose the menu styling itself.

Now go to the cover selection tab and select the one you want.

After pressing the OK button, the screen will blink several times and the start menu will be the same as in Windows 7.

Setting up via StartIsBack++

So that we do not touch gpo (objects group policies), we use this software. Download it from here. After installation, click on the settings button and go to the start menu appearance editor.

By the way, in this software you can even change the button itself.

Under this menu there are switching options, where we select everything at our discretion. Next, we go to the additional block and set everything there as it is at my peak below.

That's it, our customized menu is completely ready.

If you want even more customization, then you should purchase the pro version.

How to remove all applications from the menu?

Now I will tell you how to remove the application list. Go to the settings of our Windows and click on the personalization tab with the cursor.

Go to the start block and turn off the switch that I highlighted with a rectangle in the picture.

If everything is fine, then your startup will be something like this.

All applications have been removed.

Conclusion

Of course, you can try to configure the start menu through the registry. However, due to a lack of knowledge, you can create much more problems than achieve positive results. If you get error 1703 while changing the menu according to the last tip, then the Windows distribution kit itself is simply not suitable. In this case, download another one and reinstall.

Windows 10 brings back the Start button, which was so missing for users who couldn’t get used to the tiled Metro interface. However, this return is rather a rebirth, because the developers have added a lot interesting tools, allowing you to customize Start in Windows 10.

How to change the Start menu in Windows 10

In Windows 10, you can customize the Start menu in two ways:

  • changing parameters directly in the menu;
  • using the Start section in Personalization.

We will use all available tools to see how to customize the Start menu in Windows 10 to suit the individual requirements of each user.

Changing size and color

If you think that the Start menu is too small or, on the contrary, takes up a lot of space on the screen, then you can easily change its size. Move the cursor to the edge of the menu and use the mouse to expand or reduce its size, as is done with Windows Explorer.

If you don't like the color scheme, then change it too:

  1. Right-click on the desktop and open the Personalization section.
  2. Go to the "Colors" tab.
  3. Select the color you like and turn on Show Color in Start Menu.

We've sorted out the external design, now we can move on to the functional component.

Working with tiles

Inside the Start menu there are tiles that migrated to the “ten” from the “eight” Metro interface. They can also be controlled:

If you are tired of constantly changing (live) tiles, disable their updating. This is also done through context menu called by right-clicking on any element of the Metro interface.

Other options

In the Personalization section, there are several more Start menu options available for you to customize. For example, you can turn off the display of frequently used and recently added applications.

Advice! By clicking on the link at the very bottom of the settings, you can independently choose which folders will be pinned to Start. By default, Explorer and Settings are installed, but you can add Documents, Pictures, Downloads, etc. to them.

Enable full screen mode

If you like the tiled interface of the G8, and you want to make the Start menu in Windows 10 similar to it, then to do this you need to enable full-screen mode:

  1. Right-click on the desktop and go to the “Personalization” section.
  2. Open the Start tab.
  3. Find the "Open in" option. full screen mode" and move it to the "On" position.

After activating this option, when you press the Win key, a tiled interface will appear, familiar Windows users 8.

The video instructions will help you understand the menu settings in detail.

Conclusion
