Enabling the Flash Player plugin in the browser

If the flash stops working, then in addition to the above method of removing the player from the operating system and installing it again, you can delve into the browser settings. So, Adobe Flash Player is a plugin, so sometimes it can simply be disabled. That is, to solve the problem you just need to turn it on. Let's look at how to do this, depending on what browser you use.

Google chrome: You must enter the command in the address bar

Then press the Enter button on your keyboard. After this, a page will appear that will display a list of all plugins installed in the browser. All you need to do is find the line with Adobe Flash Player and see if it is enabled or not. If disabled, click the “Enable” button located opposite it.

If it is turned on, but videos do not play (as well as audio), and the menus of some sites are not available, then find the “Always Allow” field and check the box in it.

Yandex.Browser: here the procedure is identical to the previous one (this is due to the fact that both browsers have the same engine). The only difference is that you should enter the following command in the address bar:

browser://plugins

Opera: if you have the latest versions of the browser installed (older than 12), then use the same method that we described for Chrome, that is, call the plug-ins window and check whether the player is enabled or not.

Mazila Firefox: select the button that shows three horizontal stripes(located on the top right), and in the menu that opens, click on the “Add-ons” item. A page will appear with a “Plugins” tab on the left side. Next you need to find the line Shockwave Flash (this is another name for the same flash player). Then, as in the previous options, check whether it is enabled and, if necessary, change the plugin status to “Always enable”.

Internet Explorer: Activating the player in this browser is a little more difficult. The description of this process will be too cumbersome, so it will be easier and clearer to watch a video that shows the procedure in detail.

If neither reinstalling nor enabling the plugin in the browser brought any results, and you still cannot open videos, listen to audio or select menu items on some sites, then you will not be able to deal with this issue on your own. Therefore, do not hesitate to contact the developers directly for help, describing your problem in detail.

A plugin is a special module that connects to a web browser to increase its functionality. It is he who guarantees the effective operation of animation, viewing video files and films. Outdated modules can interfere with the user's normal browsing experience. In addition, they increase the likelihood of being attacked by malicious viruses. Therefore, every PC user should know how to update the plugin in their browser.

If you use more early versions, then you will have to update the plugins manually. To do this you need:

It is worth noting that all installed modules increase the browser loading time by approximately 12%. Thus, it is recommended to remove numerous extensions that you do not use. In addition, they can simply be moved to another folder. If you need these plugins again, you can return them in a matter of seconds.

Many people have had problems watching videos in online mode when, instead of starting a video, you see incomprehensible inscriptions or a blank screen. The reason for this incident is the initial lack Flash programs Player or an already installed player requires updates.

Solving the problem on a laptop or computer is very simple, since many sites automatically offer to install official version programs directly on their website.

On smartphones and tablets with Windows Phone or Android, regardless of the model and time of its release, is somewhat more difficult to install and update the program. For example, for Android versions There is a developed version of the player, but for Windows Phone there are not even programs that would have similar properties. To watch a video, users use paid versions, which first download the video, although not from all sites, and only then play it.

What is Adobe Flash Player?

Flash Player is a key lever, without which multimedia content located on sites cannot work and play correctly. Some browsers have a built-in player, such as Google Chrome, while others require its installation.

Program features

  • Includes all the required components for running online games.
  • Ensures smooth operation of multimedia files.
  • There are two versions available:
  1. For Internet Explorer;
  2. For other browsers: Opera, Mozilla, etc.
  • The program is updated automatically.
  • There is support for FLV and SWF files.
  • Available with integrated hardware acceleration rendering for 2D/3D graphics.

How the player works

Flash Player plays the role of an additional component for the browser, so it does not have a typical interface. But, despite this, it is possible to customize some of the parameters for yourself. To do this, just hover the cursor over the contents of the player and click on the right mouse button. Next, in the pop-up menu, adjust hardware graphics acceleration, and also indicate the degree of privacy.

Such software can support different versions Internet browsers Explorer (from 6), Mozilla Firefox(from 3), Opera (from 9.5), Google Chrome and Safari (from 4.0).

Advantages of flash player

  • Compatible perfectly with different web browsers.
  • Possibility of free downloading.
  • Does not require any settings.
  • Using the Internet is becoming more vibrant, rich and exciting.

Disadvantages of the program

  • Error control is not working well enough, causing crashes and requiring updates.
  • There is a significant load on the processor.

Regardless of the level of development of HTML 5, Flash Player retains its position as a key Internet technology.

Updating the program does not require much effort, just follow the detailed instructions:

  1. Open your browser and enter http://get.adobe.com/ru/flashplayer/ in the address bar
  2. In the window that opens, you will see the latest version of the program and a definition of the operating system of your device, for example, Windows 64-bit, Russian, Opera. If the information is correct, click on the download button. When downloading the player for another version of your computer, you should select the line “Do you need Flash Player for another computer?” and in new page register the data of your operating system.
  3. After clicking the download button, the file will automatically download; you only need to specify a location to save it.
  4. Next, close all browser windows and open the downloaded file. By agreeing to the license terms, the program is automatically updated, and you can continue to work with audio and video files on the Internet.

Advice! To protect your device from malicious viruses, you must download updates for the player exclusively from the developer’s official website.

And the second piece of advice to follow. When downloading a file with a player, remove unnecessary checkmarks. By default, Adobe checked the box to install the McAfee Security Scan Plus antivirus application. I guess you don't need it.

How to update Flash Player on Android?

Instructions for updating on your phone:

  • In your phone settings, set the marker for unknown sources. To do this, select Settings – Security – Unknown sources.
  • Then download and install the required Flash version Player from the Adobe website: https://get.adobe.com/air/?loc=ru
  • Second installation option via Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.adobe.air
  • Then install a browser that supports the player.
  • Check your browser settings, which should indicate that Flash Player is connected. Now you can open games and multimedia.

Advice! If the program does not want to be installed, delete the downloaded applications previous version and download a new one.

Unfortunately, not all browsers work with the player. Opera Mobile, FireFox, Dolphin are best combined with it.

Flash player for iOS

Users of iPhone, iPad and other Apple devices are unfortunately out of luck. Apple does not want to allow access to the official version of Adobe Flash Player because it considers it a threat to the device. But don’t be upset, there is a way out of this situation.

There is a specially designed Puffin browser that allows you to watch videos and listen to music online on sites that support Flash technology.

There are also disadvantages of the browser:

  1. Video playback slows down due to initial processing on the program server, and then on the device.
  2. The browser is paid.

Advice! Before buying a browser, use the demo version and make sure the program works and is useful.

Today we will talk about the Flash Player module (also known as a plugin or add-on). This special program extending the capabilities of the browser so that it can display elements.

Why do you need Adobe Flash Player?

If the plugin is missing or outdated, then instead of some blocks on the site we see an empty gray rectangle, sometimes accompanied by a message about the problem. For example, yesterday I bought a train ticket on the Russian Railways website and received a message that “Firefox did not allow the outdated Adobe Flash plugin to launch on http://rzd.ru”:

Accordingly, instead of a site logo made using Flash technology, I was shown a gray rectangle. If you do not have the Adobe Flash plugin or have an older version of it, then similar problems will await you with some embedded videos. online games and website controls made using this technology.

Since Flash is no longer a rarity these days, you cannot do without a module that ensures its operation in browsers.

All this can be solved by simply installing a special plugin developed by Adobe, in my example by updating it.

How to check if Adobe Flash is installed and what version is used

When you don't know if there is a plugin for displaying elements, it's worth checking for its presence and, if it turns out that it is present, then see what version is used. It happens that there is a plugin, even the latest one, but it doesn’t work. In this case, there is no point in updating it, since there is some kind of glitch and reinstallation is unlikely to help. You need to completely remove Flash Player and install it again - below I will show you how to do it correctly.

To check the work, we use the official Adobe website, this page - Checking Flash Player. Click the “Check Now” button on it. The results will show the version number, system data and whether the installed plugin is up to date:

Or, if the plugin is not installed, the message will be like this:

In addition, at the bottom of the page, under item No. 5, a multimedia image with moving clouds will appear - this is if your plugin is working correctly.

Now, let's consider what to do if:

  1. There is no Adobe Flash plugin;
  2. Installed outdated version Flash Player;
  3. Everything is there, but it doesn't work.

How to install the player on Firefox, Opera, Chrome?

I already wrote about here, but the Flash plugin can be installed more easily and now I will provide detailed instructions.

First, we need to download the latest version of Flash Player, it is free and posted on the developers’ website, so if somewhere they offer you to download or update a plugin for money, they are scammers.

Open the page – get.adobe.com/ru/flashplayer/

There, the parameters of your computer are automatically determined and an assembly suitable for your operating system and browser is prepared. If you have Windows, then there will be Flash Player for Windows, the same goes for browsers. I use Mozilla Firefox and they offer me an option that suits it.

Additionally, Adobe offers to install programs that protect against viruses. Whether or not to use this proposal, everyone can decide for themselves, but I prefer never to take different add-on weights and use full-fledged ones antivirus programs, therefore, I remove the daws.

After clicking the install button, the assembly that is relevant for your system is prepared for some time and its downloading starts automatically. If you are configured to save all files to the download folder, then the installation file will be there, but if you did it like I did - always ask where to save the file, then you will need to indicate where to save the distribution.

After launch installation file You will need to select one of the update mode options: do you allow or not to install updates? I don't recommend banning it. You should choose notification without installation if you have a slow or traffic-dependent Internet connection, so that you can choose when to download the update. In other cases, I recommend giving permission to automatic update:

After that Adobe installation Flash Player will start.

And at the final stage, a message will appear that Adobe Flash Player is installed and to start working you need to restart the browser - click the “Finish” button and restart the browser - everything should work.

How to install Flash Player on Yandex browser?

The question often arises with installing and updating the plugin on the Yandex browser. The problem is that at the moment this browser is not automatically detected by the Adobe website and the assembly of the plugin for it must be done independently - choosing the operating system and browser. But, again, Yandex is not in the list of browsers.

The solution is already shown in the picture. Since the Yandex browser runs on the Chromium engine (read Chrome), then, to install and Adobe updates Flash Player on the Yandex browser, select the item about Opera and Chromium (it is highlighted with a dotted line).

How can I update the Adobe Flash Player plugin?

Let's start with the fact that the player, as a rule, has automatic monitoring of the release of new versions (selected during installation) and, if they appear, you see this message:

Naturally, click “Install” and the program will automatically update everything.

It’s another matter when automatic updating is disabled, or some kind of failure occurs and the message that I gave at the beginning of the article appears - that the plugin is out of date. In this case there are 2 options:

  1. We follow the same path as when installing Flash Player described above.
  2. Click on the non-working Flash element on the page or on the notification icon in the address bar of the browser - a link to update the plugin will appear there.

To summarize, the installation of Flash Player and its updating procedures are completely identical.

If the Adobe Flash plugin is installed but does not work

There was a case in my memory when Flash elements did not want to work in my browser. The update didn't help. I install a new version of Flash Player, but it still says that it is outdated.

This happens rarely, but if this is your case, you need to fix it somehow.

To perform the operation, we use a special utility from Adobe - Uninstal Flash Player.

The algorithm for working with the utility is as follows (it is described in detail on that page, I will give it briefly):

  1. Download the Uninstal Flash Plauer utility from the page above.
  2. Close all browsers and applications that can use Flash.
  3. Run the uninstaller and follow its recommendations.
  4. Delete the contents of all folders previously used by Adobe Flash Player. To do this, open command line(in start, tab “standard” -> “run”). In the window, enter the following commands one by one, click “OK” and delete the contents of the opened folders:
  • C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash
  • C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash
  • %appdata%\Adobe\Flash Player
  • %appdata%\Macromedia\Flash Player
  1. After cleaning, restart your computer.

Now you can recheck the plugin using the method described at the beginning, it should show that you do not have the player installed. And re-download the latest version of Flash Player from the Adobe website, as I showed in the article two points above.

Problem with disabled plugin

Another example where everything should work, but doesn't. You may have installed latest version Flash Player, but the plugin is not launched to process the necessary elements - it is simply disabled in the browser settings.

Check its settings.

In Mozilla Firefox on the right top corner Expand the “Open Menu” tab and select “Add-ons”.

On the left, select “Plugins”, in the list you need “ShockWave Flash” - opposite it may be “never enable” or “enable upon request”, select “always enable”.

For Yandex browser, the plugin settings section is opened by entering the command in the address bar:

Browser://plugins

Opposite the Adobe Flash Player plugin, check the “Always run” checkbox:

For Chrome and Opera, a similar page opens by typing in the address bar:

Chrome:plugins

If the plugin is disabled for some unknown reason, then enable it.

Perhaps these are the main problems that users most often encounter when working with Adobe Flash Player. If you have any special case or have a unique experience, then welcome to the list of commentators - we will discuss the problems and get acquainted with the solutions.

If it’s more convenient for you to perceive the material in video format, then watch the video on installing the plugin, there are some tricks there that were not in the text:

That's all for today.

User question

Hello.

I'm trying to watch a video on one site, but the Firefox and Chrome browsers write to me that Adobe plugin Flash Player is outdated and therefore blocked.

I tried to download and install a new version of the plugin, but the Adobe website says that I have the latest version on my computer. Now, I don’t know what to do. How to properly update a flash player?

Good day everyone!

In fact, there are now quite a lot of different flash animations on websites, and in case of problems with Adobe Flash Player, it is impossible to watch it (it could be games, videos, music, various animations and other elements).

In general, when faced with such a problem, one of the first recommendations is to update the flash player (but this is not always possible). Actually, this is what today’s article will be about (by the way, I will structure it in the form of popular questions/problems regarding the flash player, which I quite often have to answer).

👉 Important!

Adobe has announced that it will stop supporting Flash Player at the end of 2020. Browsers are now warning about this event.

How to update Adobe Flash Player to the latest version

Automatically

Perhaps this is the very first and most important thing that helps solve the problem when the browser refuses to play some video and reports that Flash plugin Player has been blocked.

As a rule, by going to the page linked above, your browser and operating system will be detected automatically (by the way, pay attention to this; if the definitions are incorrect, you will need to select the player version manually, more on that below) .

Also pay attention to the checkmarks next to additional applications, for example, "McAfee Security Scan" (I, for example, refuse them).

In principle, if the browser and OS are identified correctly, you have specified additional offers - then all you have to do is press one button "Install Now" . After downloading the installation file, all you have to do is run it and wait for the installation to complete. I think there is nothing further to comment here...

Important! Before installing the flash player, close your browser (in principle, the installer itself will warn you about this when you run the installation file).

Manually (until the latest version)

It happens that when you go to the official website from Adobe (note: https://get.adobe.com/ru/flashplayer/) for auto-updating the flash player - it either redirects somewhere, reporting an error, or incorrectly detects the version of your browser or OS. Naturally, if you download the wrong thing, the videos on your site will not work ☺.

Therefore, for this case there is another link on the official Adobe website (provided below).

Basically, by clicking on the link above, you will only need to select the version of your OS (Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10) and indicate your browser. Next, the system will automatically select the optimal version of Flash Player and offer you to download it. In general, everything is simple and fast.

Manually (selecting an archived version)

This page contains different versions flash player. There are both new and old. In some cases (for example, when new version player does not work - this happens in very rare cases), sometimes you need to install more old version flash player. So, without this page it would be difficult...

Why Adobe Flash Player doesn't work in Google Chrome

Most often the reason lies in the fact that by default in Chrome browser Flash Player will start only after your permission. On the one hand, this increases security, on the other hand, it creates inconvenience for novice users (and wastes time ☺).

How to enable flash player:

In general, the Chrome browser already has your built-in player plugin(and it updates automatically!). Sometimes there are problems with this component, so I recommend checking it manually:

Flash Player is disabled in Firefox and won't update

In Firefox, the Flash player can be found in add-ons in the "Plugins" section. To open this section: click on the "three stripes" icon in the upper right corner of the browser, and then select the section "Extras"(note: puzzle icon, example below).

Further in the "Plugins" section there is an addition "shockwave flash"(this is the player). There is a switch opposite it - put it in mode "Always on" . In addition, pay attention to whether there is a proposal to update it (like, for example, in my screenshot below).

To update, just click on the button of the same name. By the way, in the settings Firefox browser you can set it so that all add-ons are updated automatically (see the icon above the list of all plugins) without your participation (which is very convenient!).

How to install Flash Player on Windows 10, EDGE browser

If you have Windows 10 and are using Microsoft browser EDGE - the Flash Player is already built into the browser itself and does not need to be installed additionally. Here the question, most often, is different - the fact is that for some reason many people have it turned off in their browser settings...

To enable the Flash Player plugin in Edge, you must:

  • in the upper right corner of the browser, click the “three dots” icon (settings) and open the “Options” section (see screenshot below);
  • then scroll the list of settings to the end and click the “View additional parameters” button;
  • In the list of parameters, set the switch to "On." opposite the desired item.

How to remove Flash Player completely from Windows

In general, usually, to update Flash Player, there is no need to remove it (unless you want to install an older version, or the update is not installed until you remove the old version of the player).

I'll give you a couple of ways.

Method No. 1

Probably the simplest and most obvious. Just like you delete any program, you can delete it too. Need to open control Panel() Windows (address: Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features ), find the player in the list of programs and delete it

Method No. 2

Adobe website has special utility (note: called uninstaller) to remove the flash player from your computer.

So, you just need to download it, then close the browser (and other applications that use the flash player), and then launch it to complete removal player from Windows. In general, the utility itself will do everything for you.

That's all I have.

As the site lives, the page will be updated...

If you have your own recipes for solving problems, thank you in advance for your addition...
