Changing the cursor size in Dota 2. Removing the cursor in the game Dark Souls

As in any online games Where reaction is important, the mouse, its sensitivity and other parameters play a huge role in Dota.
Of course, a lot depends on the mouse itself and its technical characteristics, after all, no config or setting will not be able to increase mouse DPI or add a couple of extra buttons 😉

How to set up a mouse for Dota 2

I’ll say right away that in Dota there is no separate mouse setting, as such, so you will have to configure the mouse in the Panel Windows management.

The mouse is configured as follows:

Let's go to Control Panel -> Select the display type “Small icons” -> Mouse
In this window we will configure the mouse.
The first thing you need to do is turn off acceleration. This item is called " Improved pointer accuracy". Uncheck the box.
Mouse acceleration changes sensitivity depending on how fast you move it.
This means that the sensitivity will constantly change during the game, which greatly interferes with the cursor and can play a cruel joke on you.
After turning off acceleration, we set the sensitivity that is convenient for us. There is no exact recipe here, since it all depends on your mouse and its DPI.
At this point, in principle, the entire setup is downloaded. You can launch Dota and check.

Repeat the process of adjusting the sensitivity until you reach the ideal while testing in Dota.
Good luck on the battlefields 😉

Hi all. In this blog I will share with you my settings and notes regarding the config in Dota 2.

Abilki
Q, W, E, D, F And R for quick application
Alt+Q, Alt+W, Alt+E, Alt+D, Alt+F And Alt+R for normal use

I find that the fast cast is better than the normal cast in almost all situations because, as the name says, it is simply faster. Despite this, normal casting can also be very useful in some situations (selecting multiple heroes, using area of effect skills that you are not comfortable with, etc.), so I prefer to have the option for both situations.

Items

Everything here is the same for both quick and regular use, except for one thing hotkey for normal use TP or Forcestaff.

Space, G, `, Z, X and my last slot is empty for quick use. Alt+Space, Alt+G, (Empty), Alt+Z, Alt+X And Alt+C for normal use.

Actions of units, groups and shops (regular + advanced)

I'll skip the standard ones (stand, attack, etc.).

  • Select a hero: 1
  • Select all your units: Alt+1
  • Select all other units: Alt+2
  • Select courier: T
  • Courier - deliver items: Alt + T
  • Fast buy: Mouse 4
  • Buy pinned item: Mouse 5
  • Learn ability: Empty, I use CTRL + mouse click
  • Select talent: F4
  • Take items from the cache: F1
  • Open a shop: F3
  • Controlled groups: 2-5 and Alt 3-5. Bind all your own and other units to Alt+1-2 allows me to have 2-5 controlled groups, which I think is very convenient for heroes with microcontrol (Lycan, Beast, Visage etc.). Bind groups to Alt - it's mostly a habit from the days when I played on Meepo.

Hotkey settings and more

There's not much to say about hotkey settings. I turned off “Quick application at the touch of a key”, And “Advanced Quick/Auto Application”, which require no explanation.

“Double-tapping on yourself” - useful feature, but it's useless for me because I'm already using the key Alt for most hotkeys.

Account table: F2
Console: F8

Game Settings

Basic attack:

Standard. I think that it is optimal choice, unless you play with heroes who turn around after using an ability (due to auto-attack); this is a problem for heroes like Tinker And Earth Spirit(I can't think of any other hero for whom I would completely disable auto attack). If you set this setting, your hero will not attack automatically, but will attack after using an ability or killing a unit with an attack.

To apply to yourself by double tapping:

Wasn't this already on another page? Valve, Please…

Order to all units using the CTRL key:

It won't hurt, but I don't find it useful. Essentially, only useful when you panic and forget your controlled groups (or for a falcon Beastmaster, since it is not highlighted when “Managing all units”).

Stop teleportation with a separate key:

This is one of the best features, in my opinion. Essentially, it allows you to plan actions through Shift during teleport and at the same time you can cancel actions without canceling the teleport. This makes life a lot easier.

Stopping abilities with a separate key:

The same. For example, you want to “shift” the blink on Sand King during the ult, but sometimes the situation changes after the ult has been pressed, but you can no longer change anything. This same function fixes this. This also prevents accidental ability cancellations.

Force attack with right mouse button:

I use this feature, it makes denying creeps much easier. But it has its drawbacks, for example, to follow an ally you will have to look for a key M(I think it could be rebinded to something closer, but it’s already such an iconic movement button). Miss-clicking on an ally's wards during a fight or in the lane can ruin your position.

Quick Attack:

Essentially the same as quick application; The function allows you to perform actions faster/easier and reduces the strain on your hand.

Fast travel:

The same.

Minimap

Basically it all depends on your preferences. The only functions I use- this is an enlarged mini-map and hero icons on the mini-map when holding down Alt, which do not need explanation. I would not recommend using “ Invent Alt press: While it does make viewing the minimap more informative of hero positions without having to remember the colors at the start of the game, the feature does not allow you to see which way the heroes are facing, which is very important information.

T You can understand most of the information about the fight only by looking at the arrows that show which way the heroes are facing. This also hides the lines, making it impossible to see creeps.

Interface

I'll just attach a picture here. This is 100% personal preference, so there's not much to say here.

I prefer to use hero names instead of player names because I sometimes have trouble remembering nicknames in the heat of the moment (have you ever met a player who shouts “Hey guys, was that guy who killed that weirdo in a fight?”).

Advanced settings

Auto attack for summoned units:

Like a hero.

Turn off auto attack by holding down the cancel key and Automatic switching auto attack:

I don't use any of them, there are new features and I don't have any problems with my current auto attack settings so I never thought about trying them. They may be useful.

Quick application by pressing a key:

I'm pretty sure I've already enabled it on the hotkeys page. Valve, Please..

Smart Attack:

This is also very good function, which essentially creates a small circle around your cursor and when you press “Attack”, the hero will start attacking the unit that is closest to your cursor (instead of the unit that is closest to your hero). This makes aggressive lane play easier and eliminates the circle that appears every time you hit the quick cast.

Auto-repeat right-click:

This is perhaps the most useful feature. Honestly, I can't imagine playing without it now. Just give it a try if you haven't used it yet. There are literally no downsides and it makes the game much more convenient since there is no need to constantly spam the mouse button.

Things I didn't mentionThese are functions that I don't use. I don't think they are good or bad, so I don't see the point in mentioning them.

The last thing is this is the function in “Other”: “Dynamically resize hero icons“, which makes the minimap cleaner and allows you to see much more information in large team fights.

Camera

I use the middle mouse button to move the camera, so I don't need any of these settings. When I used scrolling along the edge of the screen, I had it at maximum speed, but this is highly dependent on your mouse sensitivity settings, so there's not much to note here.

Windows operating system. You can, of course, replace the desktop wallpaper or put a different background image, but this will actually change little. Replacing the cursor will be much more interesting, because the standard pointers built into the operating system are quite boring and monotonous. Moreover, for this it is not necessary to install various programs to change appearance systems. All you need to do is download the archive, unpack it, and apply the downloaded package in the settings. Nothing complicated at all. Fortunately, there are a huge number of modified cursors for every taste and color, which can be downloaded from the Internet and installed on your computer or laptop.

In this article, we offer you a detailed look at how to change the cursor in operating system Windows. We will also provide instructions on how to change its size in Dota 2 and learn how to hide it in the game Dark Souls.

How to diversify the display of the mouse pointer - in our new article

Replacing the system cursor

To begin with, it is worth mentioning that cursors can be animated or static. Animated ones are distributed as files with the .ani extension, while static ones have the .cur extension. Each individual arrow is separate file. That is, you can change a whole package of cursors, installing, for example, the one from Lololoshka, and all the arrows in the system will change, or you can replace them individually, combining several packages. You can download them as an archive with a special installer file, thanks to which you can integrate them into the system with two mouse clicks.

Now consider two replacement options: replacing all cursors or each one individually. Required files and software for each of the options are absolutely the same, only the procedure is different.

Option 1: Replacing all cursors at once

The simplest and quick way change the design of your Windows. Just a couple of seconds, and your system will sparkle with new colors.

Option 2: Replacing cursors individually

A more painstaking option that allows you to create your own diagrams and change only those items that are necessary. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Download the archive you like with cursors, unpack it to a convenient place on your computer.
  2. Select all the files in the folder and copy them to C:\Windows\Cursors.
  3. Go to Control Panel - Mouse - Pointers, where in the Settings window you can see the current cursor settings.
  4. Select the item you need, for example, “Main mode” or “Graphic selection”, after which the “Browse” button is activated.
  5. Click on it and select the desired cursor in the folder that opens; Confirm your choice by clicking the “Open” button.
  6. Change the items that are most interesting to you.
  7. If you want to save the current settings scheme, click the "Save As" button, enter the name of your scheme. You can also simply click Apply - OK.
  8. Enjoy the new cursors.

Removing the cursor in the game Dark Souls

Dark Souls is one of the popular and most advanced RPG games. It is played by a huge number of players from all over the world. The game attracts with its well-thought-out game world and process, but from time to time it can encounter very annoying bugs. One of these bugs is the white mouse cursor in the middle of the screen, which is impossible to get rid of using standard methods. Almost every Dark Souls player sooner or later thinks about whether it is possible to remove it without a trace, so that it does not interfere. To do this, several patches are distributed on the Internet, with which you can configure the game so that the cursor is not displayed. What do I need to do?

  1. Download two archives with files for correction. You can download them on our website or search the Internet yourself.
  2. Unpack both archives, then go to the folder where the Dark Souls game is installed and find the Data subfolder in it, where you need to copy the contents of both archives.
  3. Next, you need to find the DSfix.ini configuration file in the same folder and open it using Notepad.
  4. Find the Window & Mouse Cursor Options section, find the disableCursor line in it and change the value 0 to 1.
  5. Launch the game and make sure the cursor is hidden.

Making the cursor smaller in Dota 2

Dota 2 is another incredibly popular game with millions of fans around the world. After one of the game updates, the cursor became about 4 times larger than it was before. This is due to the fact that in the update the developers set the arrow scale value to approximately 400% to make it convenient to play on a 4K monitor, and since a relatively small number of users have such displays, the cursor looks huge on a regular screen. Is it possible to somehow fix this bug and reduce its size?

To do this you need:

  1. Launch Steam, select the Dota 2 game, right-click on the name, select Properties - Set launch options.
  2. In the line that opens, enter the following command:

    Cursor_scale_percent 100

then click OK and start the game.

  1. The arrow will return to its previous appearance.

Conclusion

After reading this article, you now know exactly how to change the cursor in the operating room Windows system, how to reduce it in Dota 2 and how to remove it in the game Dark Souls. You can make sure that there are absolutely no difficulties in all these operations and making a cursor like Lololoshka’s or in any other style will take literally a couple of minutes.

We hope everything works out for you. We also invite you to leave comments with feedback.
