Kindle Touch Instructions in Russian

Chapter 1
Getting started

The Kindle Touch manual will introduce you to all the features and characteristics of this e-reader.

If you purchased your Kindle Touch through a registered Amazon.com account, the e-reader will already be “linked” to it. To check this, click the Home button, and look at what Amazon username is displayed in the upper left corner of the Home screen. If it says My Kindle or shows the name of the previous Kindle Touch owner instead of your Amazon account name, then you need to register the book. To learn more about how to register your Kindle Touch, see the " " section later in this chapter.

Using Controls
In order to learn how to read and download audiobooks, newspapers, magazines and books, you need to remember just a few simple steps. Most of your interactions with Kindle Touch will be done through the device's touchscreen.

Below the screen is located Home button. On the bottom there is a headphone input, a charging indicator, a power button and a micro-usb port, which is also used for charging. There are two built-in speakers on the back side.

Home Button: This button takes you back to the Home Page, where you can view a list of downloaded e-books and other files.

Headphone jack: Connect headphones to listen to audiobooks, background music, or text-to-speech text.

Charging indicator light: The indicator glows amber while charging, and green when the battery is fully charged.

To completely turn off the Kindle Touch, hold down the Power button for 7 seconds until the book screen goes blank. If the Kindle Touch freezes or does not turn on, you can restart the reader by pressing and holding the Power button for 20 seconds.

Speakers: On the back of your Kindle Touch are two speakers for playing your audio content. Connecting headphones automatically turns off the built-in speakers.

Charging port/Micro-USB port: You can use the included one USB cable to connect your book to your PC to download the necessary content or recharge your Kindle Touch. To recharge from the mains, you will need a special charger, which is sold separately.

When the Kindle Touch is charging, a lightning bolt icon appears at the top of the Home screen.

When using network charger, Kindle Touch batteries will be fully charged in less than 4 hours. If you are using third party network adapters or a USB cable for recharging, the charging time for the e-book batteries can be more than 4 hours.

If the charging indicator at the bottom of your Kindle Touch does not turn amber, check that the USB cable is fully inserted into the USB port on your computer.
If after doing this, your e-reader still does not charge, try a different USB port or outlet. Please note that some older computers have low-power USB ports that are not suitable for charging.

Using the screen
Kindle Touch has touch screen, with which most operations with the device are performed.

Besides this, you can see more detailed description of one word or another using Wikipedia or Shelfari (X-Ray is not supported by all Kindle books).

Indicator statuses wireless communication
Whispernet delivers content to your Kindle wirelessly. Your Kindle can connect to Whispernet via a Wi-Fi connection or, on some models, a 3G connection (read more about this in the article). The more full the Wi-Fi and 3G connection indicators are, the stronger and more stable the wireless connection.

Kindle connects to Whispernet using Wi-Fi.

Kindle connects to Whispernet using 3G connection. In addition, you can see EDGE and GPRS network icons next to the signal strength panel.

Battery indicator
The battery charge indicator shows how fully charged your Kindle's battery is. Please note that the weak wifi signal connections may result in excessive energy consumption.

Operation indicator
This indicator appears in the top left corner of the Kindle Touch screen when the device is busy downloading new content, checking for updates, searching, opening large PDF files, or loading web pages.

Kindle Touch Settings
Kindle Touch settings concern connecting the device to Wi-Fi and 3G networks, as well as registering (“linking”) it to an Amazon account.

Network connections: Books, magazines, and other content are delivered to your Kindle Touch using built-in wireless connectivity. If your Kindle Touch supports both Wi-Fi and 3G connections, try to use a faster Wi-Fi connection to download content. You can connect to Wi-Fi networks at home or through hotspots around the world. To see available Wi-Fi connections, go to the “Home Page” and click on the “Menu” button, and then select “Settings”. In the settings window, click on Wi-Fi Networks and then select the connection you need. If you see a lock icon next to the network icon, you will need a password to access the connection.

Kindle models with 3G support use the same data transfer technology as cell phones, so the quality of the 3G signal will directly depend on the zone cellular coverage. By default, Kindle 3G is automatically connected to a 3G network. If the 3G signal is insufficient, Kindle can switch to slower GPRS and EDGE connections. Your Kindle automatically turns off its 3G connection if you are currently using a Wi-Fi connection. If you are disconnected from Wi-Fi networks, or if its coverage becomes weak, the Kindle will automatically switch back to a 3G connection.

To preserve your battery charge as long as possible, try to use the wireless network only when you need to connect to Whispernet. If you turn off the wireless connection, both Wi-Fi and 3G connections stop working.

To register your Kindle Touch, click on the Menu button located on " Home page", then select Settings from the list of menus shown. Click Registration and select the appropriate option to begin the registration process.

After turning it on, it prompts you to select a language, and then select WiFi network. When the list of available networks appears, close the list of networks with a cross in the right top corner, then click on Complete Kindle setup later in the lower right corner, then click Set Up Later to postpone registration.

Amazon is different from other e-book makers in that it constantly expands the capabilities of already released models with the help of new software, which improves the functionality of Kindle.

It is known that any Kindle model has a Wi-Fi or 3G module. And they will also be on new reader models. Users often wonder why they are needed on e-readers? Obviously, browsing websites is very inconvenient - the screen refreshes slowly and flickers, annoying the user. This is not why the wireless module is present on e-readers. About six months ago, all Kindle owners had the opportunity to download books wirelessly over Wi-Fi or 3G using the Send to Kindle utility.

This means that you no longer need to connect to a computer to download files. Very few owners of American e-readers in Russia learned about this opportunity. This is not about sending books to the assigned Kindle e-mail during registration - this method is more complicated and is not suitable for everyone. The Send to Kindle utility allows you to transfer files to your Kindle over Wi-Fi or 3G without connecting the reader to your computer via cable. This is the most quick way Kindle book downloads for today. Plus, no other manufacturer offers anything like it.

We will illustrate the entire algorithm for using these utilities with clear screenshots to convince you that there is nothing complicated in wirelessly downloading books and articles to your Kindle. It's fast and convenient.

As you know, Kindle supports MOBI, TXT and PDF formats. But using this wireless download, you can additionally upload books in RTF, DOC and DOCX formats, since Amazon has an online converter that converts files of these formats into MOBI. Thus, using wireless downloading, you get the opportunity to read books on your Kindle in six formats! Not a bad functionality extension, isn't it?

After installing the utility, you can start downloading files. Select the files in the desired formats to download. With them selected, click the right mouse button. You will see in context menu, opened with the right mouse button, a new item “Send to Kindle”. Feel free to click on it. Your computer, of course, must be connected to the Internet. Sending books from your computer may take a few minutes.

To receive sent books, you just need to connect your Kindle to Wi-Fi (and if you have a reader with 3G support, then just wait for the download). In the Main Menu of the reader you will see the received books.

Another important advantage of wireless downloading is that books sent to Kindle via Send To Kindle are saved on Amazon in your account (section "Your Kindle Library"). You can read books on your Kindle and delete them from the reader, but they will still remain in the library in your account. If you need them again, you can simply download them back from your account through the “Document Archive” function in the main menu of your .

Reading Articles from the Internet on Kindle

In addition, Amazon has introduced a version of the same Send To Kindle utility for Chrome browsers and Firefox, which converts text on a web page into the Kindle MOBI format and sends it to the reader. Moreover, this process occurs within just a couple of minutes. Very soon Amazon promises to release Send To Kindle for the Safari browser.

The situation when you need Send To Kindle looks like this: You need to read an article on a website, but it is large in volume, and you have time to read it right now. But you have a Kindle on which you can read the article when you have time. For example, in transport on the way to work or school.

Now you have the opportunity to convert any web page into an e-book and send it to Kindle for later comfortable reading.

Find an article online that you would like to read on your Kindle. For example, let's take an article on Lenta.ru. Click on the mentioned icon and select one of the suggested options: “Send the entire article,” “Preview the article,” or “Send only the selected text.” In any case, you won’t have to make more than two mouse clicks to send an article or a fragment of text!
