Connecting a PS3 DualShock joystick to a computer. Connecting a PS3 DualShock joystick to a computer A program for connecting a PS3 joystick to a PC

Despite the fact that personal computers are more popular among gamers, many also use gaming consoles. Manufacturers are trying to make controllers ergonomic, functional and durable. However, sometimes the gamepad breaks down and it becomes necessary to purchase and connect a new device. This need may also arise if Play Station is used by several players at the same time.

How to connect the new DualShok 3 joystick to PS3

The Sony Play Station 3 game console is very common. At the same time, the prefix is no longer a new product. Despite this, prices for new controllers are quite high. Therefore, many owners are looking for alternative gamepad options. Some people buy Chinese analogues, which are not of high quality, or they try to find and connect a controller from earlier versions of the Sony console.

The most common options used by console owners are:

  • Connecting a new DualShok 3 controller.
  • Purchasing a gamepad for a more recent version of the DualShok 4 console.
  • Use of similar products from another manufacturer. The most suitable option in this situation is a manipulator from Microsoft.

REFERENCE. While DualShok 4 can be used with Play Station 3, DualShok 3 will not work with PS4.

Using the new DualShok 3 with the Sony PS3 is the easiest solution to this problem. Of course, in this case, you will have to spend a fairly large amount of money.

Connecting a new controller is as follows:

In addition to connecting using a wire, the PS3 console can also be connected using wireless technology. Typically, the gaming process is carried out without the use of wires.

REFERENCE. The very first connection of the new controller must be made using a cable only! Before starting the device connection procedure, you must fully charge the joystick.

To connect the controller to Play Station 3 wirelessly you will need:

  • Play Station 3.
  • Plug-in controller.
  • USB cable and Bluetooth adapter.

The connection procedure is as follows:

  • The PS3 console must be connected to the TV and turned on. It should not be in Standby mode.
  • A Wireless receiver should be installed in the set-top box.
  • Power is supplied to the manipulator.
  • After the product turns on, you need to press the PS button, which is located on its body.
  • The game console will begin searching and recognizing external devices. If the manipulator is suitable, the synchronization process will begin.
  • You can check whether the gamepad is connected by launching any game.

If necessary, you can attach an additional joystick to the console:

  • The device must be turned on and the attached joystick must be fully charged.
  • On the manipulator, press the button labeled PS.
  • On the TV or monitor screen you need to select “New device”.
  • In game mode, you should select “Guest”.
  • When a window appears with a warning message “Login to the network,” you should click “No.”
  • You can start the gameplay.

Why won't my joystick connect to PS3?

When connecting a new controller, owners may not only have the question “How to turn on the joystick on PS3?”, but also “Why won’t the joystick connect?” The most common reason why connection cannot be completed is that the controller is completely discharged. In this case, you need to fully charge the device.

Also, one of the reasons may be the purchase of a non-original product. In this case, the user is not immune from the fact that the joystick may either be completely inoperative, or the console will not be able to recognize the gamepad. In addition, non-original joysticks have very limited functionality, which affects the quality of the gameplay. Experts advise purchasing only original products to avoid possible connection problems or difficulties when using the product. Connecting a new original joystick does not present much difficulty.

Gaming on computers and game consoles has become more convenient thanks to gamepads. Remote control allows you to relax and play in comfort. Players often wonder whether from PC to PS3 and vice versa. Next we will talk in detail about the correct connection. What information may be useful to the user in this or that case? What should you pay attention to?

Chances of connection

The first step is to figure out how realistic the task is. The main problem is that the computer and the game console are different devices that support peripherals.

A game joystick from a computer can be connected to a PlayStation 3. A gamepad from a console will, in some cases, work on a PC. Accordingly, there is always a chance for success. Especially if you give preference to joysticks from Microsoft.

Connection methods

There are several options for connecting gamepads. The success of the task often depends on this choice.

Today you can connect the joystick using a wire or a Bluetooth receiver. This applies to both working with a PC gamepad and when playing on the console component. Note that a wired connection is easier. sometimes they are not recognized by the game console or computer, so it is not always possible to connect them.

What you need to connect

The next important issue is collecting the equipment necessary for the procedure. Without it, it will not be possible to realize the idea. Fortunately, you will need a minimum of items.

How to connect a joystick from PC to PS3? For this you will need:

  • game console;
  • gamepad;
  • USB cable or Bluetooth adapter.

Agree, nothing special. If you want to connect a PS3 game joystick to your computer, you may additionally need:

  • emulator program for setting up control buttons;
  • Gamepad drivers.

In fact, everything is much simpler than it seems, so even a novice user can handle connecting game controllers.

Connecting to PS3 via wire

In general, the task at hand will not differ much from working with a “native” gamepad. Having all the previously listed accessories will reduce the likelihood of failure to a minimum. Some problems may arise when working with wireless gamepads. If wires are used, in 90% of cases you can hope for a successful completion of the operation.

How to connect a joystick from PC to PS3? To do this, just follow these short instructions. It looks something like this:

  1. Place the game console in a convenient place. Connect it to a power source using a special wire, and then to a TV or monitor.
  2. Turn on the device. Wait for it to fully load.
  3. Connect the USB cable to the gamepad. Insert it into any USB hole on the set-top box.
  4. Enable gamepad. Wait for it to initialize.

This is where all the action ends. If the PlayStation 3 supports one or another joystick from a computer, everything will work. Otherwise, you will have to abandon the idea. It is important that the controller is set to Gamepad 1.

Wireless connection to PS3

How to connect a joystick from PC to PS3 wirelessly? It is important to remember that the first work with the device must be carried out through a wire. Otherwise, the controller will not be recognized. Accordingly, it will not work.

If you want to use a wireless connection, you must:

  1. Connect PS3 to the screen and to the network.
  2. Insert the WireLess receiver into the USB connector. It is sold either separately from the gamepad or bundled with it.
  3. Turn on the controller and set-top box.
  4. Press the PS button on the controller.

No more manipulations are required. After these steps, the joystick will be detected by the game console. You can play!

Important: for any connection, first charge the controller, otherwise it simply will not turn on. 10-15 minutes of recharging before starting work is enough.

From console to PC

Now you know how to connect a joystick from a PC to a PS3. How can you perform a similar operation, but in reverse? That is, work with a PlayStation game controller on a computer?

Bringing your idea to life is easier than it might seem at first glance. As in the previous case, we recommend giving preference to a wired connection, which avoids many problems.

The algorithm of actions when connecting a game controller from a console boils down to the following steps:

  1. Turn on the computer and establish an Internet connection.
  2. Download and install the driver for a specific joystick. To do this, you will have to download a special program, for example, Motioninjoy.
  3. Connect the controller to the PC using a wire.
  4. In the mentioned application, open the Profiles item and check the box next to Select one mode.
  5. Enable gamepad. Wait for it to initialize.

Once synchronization is complete, the light on the joystick will light up. This is a sign that everything was done correctly. The joystick is configured using the additional xPadder program.

If you are using a wireless gamepad, you will need:

  1. Install the driver for the gamepad on your PC.
  2. Insert the WireLess receiver into the computer.
  3. Charge the controller and turn it on.
  4. Find the Bluetooth joystick on your computer and click “Connect”.

Fast, simple, convenient. Now we understand how to connect a joystick from a PC to a PS3 and vice versa. Even a novice user can cope with the task!

The task of how to connect a joystick to a PS3 can be divided into 3 subtasks, depending on where you got the gamepad from:

  • You can take the “native” DualShock 3 - and this is the most reasonable option.
  • A contender could also be a device from SonyPS3 - DualShock 4, don't count on backward compatibility, the 3rd DualShock on the 4th PS will not work (except in some very simple games), but the DS4 works quite well with the PS3.
  • It doesn’t hurt to try any other similar control device, but, as they say, from third-party manufacturers - in this situation, the most suitable products are those of the same Microsoft.

Don’t forget, there is also the possibility of connecting a second control device for our game console, this further increases the level of use of the console, but also makes us rack our brains over the connection.

We work with the standard option - DualShock 3 for PlayStation 3

This is the simplest and most natural connection combination and, of course, the most correct, although on the DS3 you will have to “splurge” an additional 3-4 thousand. So, we connect the PS3 to a regular 220 V network and make sure by the red indicator that there is a network. And then:

  • The set-top box is already connected to the monitor (or TV).
  • We take out the USB cable included in the set-top box (adapter to miniUSB) and connect the gamepad and the set-top box to each other - of course, on the main product we can choose any connector.

Please note that in the future you will play, of course, without physically connecting the gamepad to the console - wireless, but the first connection is made using a cable

Let's not forget that DS3, as a peripheral equipment, has a stand-alone battery that requires constant recharging. If you have not worried about this in advance, wait 15–20 minutes until the battery returns to normal; you should not start connecting, being unsure of reliable resources .

  • Turn on PlayStation 3.
  • The set-top box loads and at the final stage begins to recognize external devices. Since the gamepad is “native”, it is recognized without problems (well, almost like your flash drive on a computer) and immediately starts working.
  • In the future, connecting the joystick will already take place without a cable - you simply turn on the PS3 and press the PS button on the gamepad in the very middle of the device, it is directly looking at you.
  • Please note that you will use the PS button more than once in the future, already during the game; if you press and hold it, you can get a lot of additional useful functions: viewing the battery status, changing the gamepad number, turning it off.

Now we are trying to use a PlayStation 4 gamepad

Well, okay, you want to shoot sparrows out of a cannon and revive the PlayStation 3 using the gamepad from the PlayStation 4. This is possible, you never know what reasons may arise. Please note that work will be available in any mode - both with and without wire.

To make the connection, again make sure the DualShock 4 battery is fully charged.

If necessary, charge the joystick

We do the following:

  1. Launch “Manage Bluetooth Devices” on PS3.
  2. In the window that opens, click on “Register a new device.”
  3. When you click on the “Start Scan” button, we search for an external device.
  4. On the device itself, simultaneously press and hold down two buttons - PS and Share.
  5. When the white indicator on the joystick flashes, recognition and installation have been completed successfully.
  6. At this point, Wireless Controller should appear on the screen.

It’s the turn of any joystick that turns up

Well, that's too strong a word - “anyone that comes along.” But, indeed, there is always a chance to play, especially if the joystick is from Microsoft and you choose the right connection method (maybe you’re just lucky and you guessed right, since the choice is small).

As for the method, there are two of them:

  • via cable;
  • via Bluetooth receiver.

Cable connection is simpler and more reliable

A wireless connection, and even a “non-native” joystick, often ends in failure; it may not be recognized by either the console or the computer.

To connect a gamepad from a computer you will need a standard set:

  • the game console itself, of course;
  • control device;
  • USB cable or Bluetooth adapter.

If you now want to use DualShock 3 on a computer, then this will no longer be necessary:

  • without a program that solves the problem of how to configure the joystick control buttons - we configure the reaction of each game to all 8 directions of movement;
  • drivers for the joystick exactly for the installed system.

So, “third-party” control peripherals will be connected to the PS3 using the following algorithm:

  1. There is nothing unusual on the console side - plugging into the network and into the monitor, turning on the power and waiting for it to fully load.
  2. We connect the console and joystick together using a USB cable.
  3. Turn on the power to the joystick, which must also be charged.
  4. The console immediately recognizes the new connected device and initializes it. If recognition is unsuccessful, then there is only one conclusion - the console does not have a driver for this peripheral, does not “know” it and does not allow it to be used. There is only one nuance that can save you - perhaps the failure is due to the fact that you are connecting the joystick as a second one. Then you need to make sure that you set it as Gamepad 1.

Even if you intend to use this “non-native” joystick wirelessly in the future, the primary connection is made through a wire. If you still want to make a wireless connection, then do this:

  1. After connecting the PlayStation 3 to the network, you need to insert a wireless receiver into its USB connector.
  2. As a rule, such a receiver is purchased separately from the joystick.
  3. We supply power to both the console and the joystick.
  4. On the gamepad we press the same PS button.
  5. The console will attempt to establish communication and recognize the peripheral.

Now let's try to use DualShock 3 on a computer. The procedure is no different from connecting any other peripheral, even taking into account this simple step - you must first obtain a DS3 driver for the corresponding system on the PC. Next:

  1. We connect the DS3 and the computer via a USB connector.
  2. We launch the DS3 driver, there are several of them, but Motioninjoy has proven itself the best.
  3. We enter profile management -Profiles.
  4. Set the switch for selecting a single operating mode - Selectonemode.
  5. Next we turn on the joystick.
  6. We are waiting for its activation. If the indicator on the joystick lights up, it has been installed successfully.
  7. Now you need to configure it, it is best to use the xPadder program for this.

If you want to install remotely, you will need a wireless receiver in the USB connector. Then:

  1. Install the gamepad driver on the computer.
  2. On the PC, in Devices, find “Bluetooth joystick”.
  3. Click on the “Connect” button.

If you need a second joystick

The task of how to connect a gamepad to PS3 also includes connecting a second device. For the second joystick the actions are as follows:

  1. Initial state: the console is turned on, the second gamepad is charged and also connected and turned on.
  2. Press the PS button on the gamepad.
  3. On the screen, select the “New user” item.
  4. When choosing a game mode, we are interested in “As a guest”.
  5. If the warning “Login to the PSN network” appears, then answer “No”.

The connection is complete, now you have a PS3 configured and a second joystick

Instructions

Wait while the Found New Hardware Wizard detects the new device. Following the instructions of the program, install it. To make sure it is working, you need to open Device Manager and look at the list of equipment. The installed controller should be there.

Use another installation option - place the CD in the computer drive and launch the program. Following the clear step-by-step instructions, complete the installation of the controller and drivers from the manufacturer.

It is convenient to play with joysticks from game consoles. In order to connect and synchronize a game joystick from a PS3 console, you need to install a special program.

Most modern games, including computer games, are specially made for joystick control. For example, football simulators or racing games are best played using a gamepad from a console. For this, a joystick from the Playstation 3 console can be used. If the user connects the Dualshock 3 gamepad to the computer, he will be able to get the most out of almost any game.

Basic steps

In order to play your favorite applications using a gamepad, you don’t need to suffer for a long time. You only need to connect the gamepad from the PS3 console to your computer using a USB cable. Another connection option involves using a Bluetooth adapter. This is where you can play wirelessly. Of course, you need to connect and synchronize the Bluetooth adapter with your computer (if you use a joystick on a laptop, you won’t need to buy such an adapter, since most laptop models already have it built-in). After the user connects the joystick from the console to the computer, you will need to download and install a special program - MotionJoy Gamepad Tool. This program is visible to absolutely all games, which means no one will have problems synchronizing this software.

How to use MotionJoy Gamepad Tool?

After the user installs this program, you must select "Driver Manager". After this, special drivers will be downloaded, and the computer will think that you are connecting the joystick from the console. Next, you need to check the box “Xbox 360 Controller Emulator” and select your gamepad in the general list. The computer will think that a gamepad from the XboX console is connected to it. The only downside is that the same button labels will be used as on the Xbox, but you can easily come to terms with this and get used to it. Next, you need to click the Enable button. After this, you can enjoy games using the joystick from the PS3 console.

The MotionJoy Gamepad Tool software is ideal for working with both Playstation 3 and Xbox gamepads. It can be easily used by owners of both consoles, and the process of launching joysticks on a computer is no different. As a result, the PS3 gamepad will work the same way as with the console itself (vibration and all other nuances will be present and will not go away).

A gamepad for a computer is sometimes very convenient. And in addition to interesting multi-platform projects, which are not always tailored when ported for computer control, there are also games like Euro Truck Simulator 2, in which the gamepad (or steering wheel) opens up a new control scheme, more accurate and convenient.

The best option is to buy a gamepad from XBOX 360, which can be conveniently connected to the latest versions of Windows without any settings. And all games pick it up on the fly, especially those from consoles. You can also pay attention to special gamepads for computers, which are significantly cheaper and more accessible. But there is a third interesting way, connecting a PS3 gamepad to a computer. This is especially true if you have a PS3, because... It is not advisable to buy a separate PS3 gamepad (unless you are a PlayStation and Sixaxis fan). In our editorial office this is exactly the case (although there is a separate gamepad from the XBOX 360).

We will connect the gamepad in two ways.

Wired connection of a gamepad from PS3 to a computer

We will need a PS3 gamepad, a USB cable (usb to mini-usb) and a special driver. Oddly enough, Windows 8, after connecting the gamepad with a wire, happily began installing the driver and reported that it had found a controller from the PlayStation 3. However, according to the results of its work, nothing interesting happened - the buttons did not respond, the controller did not detect games. And our goal is not only to connect it, but also to establish operation in the XBOX 360 controller emulation mode, so that all games pick it up automatically and conveniently. In any case, connect the gamepad with a wire to the computer, turn it on with the PS button and wait until the standard driver is installed.

There are no similar entries.

I think every PS3 owner has wondered how to connect a joystick from Sony to a PC. Now I’ll tell you how to do it. I’ll tell you right away - when using it on a computer, the MAC address of the joystick changes, which can be solved by connecting via a cord to the console and pressing the PS button.

What do we need?

Joystick from PS3.
USB cable from joystick.
(ADDITIONAL, but not required) If you want to play wirelessly via BlueTooth, then you will need a BT adapter.

Why is this necessary?

All modern games are designed for joysticks. Same GTA4. And in general, if you have a large distance between the PC and you, then I think putting a table, a mouse and keyboard on it and pulling whatever wire is not the best solution. After all, you can use this method to play the same way, just lying on the couch with joy.

What are we going to do?

Connect a PS3 joystick (I'm using the PS3 DualShock3 as an example) to the PC for convenient play of any games.

How exactly will this work, will all games understand Joy?
We will use 2 methods:
1) For all games that support the Xbox360 controller. Namely, we will programmatically pass off our PS3 joystick as an Xbox360 joystick. This is the best and most convenient way. The only downside is that we have A on B, etc., and X on O, etc. But this is just a matter of habit.
2) 3 other methods, or self-tuning for any other games. Unfortunately, with some games in this case you will have to tinker a lot to get proper controls. But if you're lucky, the standard options will do. Also in this case we have support for motion sensors.

Let's get started:
Symbol:
In parentheses it is indicated for example (drive managerinstall). The first name is indicated if you do everything through home (online mode). The second name if you do everything offline (local) mode.

1) Download the program from:
For x32 (x86) systems - http://www.xinputer.com/download/MotioninJoy_060001_x86_signed.zip
For x64 systems - http://www.xinputer.com/download/MotioninJoy_060003_amd64_signed.zip
2) Download local from here - http://forums.motioninjoy.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=989 (all three English Complete Edition archives so that the program does not require Internet)
3) Install the program
4) Place the local folder from the archive into the program directory.
5) Connect our joy from PS3 via USB (!!!) to the computer. Also, if there is a BT adapter, we connect it too.
6) Go to the driver page (drive managerinstall), click Load and wait for the installation to complete.
7) Go to the home page (homelocal). For modern games, select Emulate Xbox360 and click Enable. For old games without xbox360 controller support, we choose any other one to suit our taste and color, or even customize everything ourselves.
This was a cable connection method.

Additional actions (if we want the joy to work via BT adapter)

8) Go to the page about the BT adapter (BluetoothPairBluetooth). We select our joy at the bottom and our adapter at the top. Click Pair Now and Backup this addr.
9) Disconnect our controller from USB
10) Let's play. Joy has to work.
11) Don’t forget if you use the xbox360 controller emulation method, set the game settings to use the xbox360 joystick.

  4. When choosing a game mode, we are interested in “As a guest”.
  5. If the warning “Login to the PSN network” appears, then answer “No”.

The connection is complete, now you have a PS3 configured and a second joystick

So, how to connect a Sony PlayStation 3 joystick to a computer? For this we need: the joystick itself and the MotionJoy program.

First, we have to do the obvious: connect the joystick using USB.

When you connect the joystick, the lights on it will start to light up alternately from 1 to 4. This means that it is charging from the computer.

After we have connected the joystick to the computer, we move on to the MotionJoy program.
The program is free and can be downloaded from the Internet

Open the program and go to the “Driver Management” tab. Click download drivers, then install drivers. (The program may not respond for some time, but this is how it should be. You just need to wait.)
After we have installed the drivers, go to the “Quick start” tab and select our joystick. And then it's up to you. If you need to emulate a joystick from the Xbox 360, then select this option. Great, now open the MotioninJoy program. It runs only on Windows and only with an Internet connection. Go to the Driver Manager tab and connect the controller to the computer. The LED indicator of the gamepad will show the charging process.

Under the inscription on a white background there will be your joystick. Click on it and click Load Driver. After a short wait, there will be a green checkmark next to the name of your gamepad. If not, download the driver again.

Setting up emulation

Now go to the Profiles tab. Here we can see the name of our joystick in the window. Select Xinput-Default. There will be an inscription near it - Xbox 360 Emulator. In order to play new games we need it.

Also, you can select other emulation profiles, for example, useful for PS2, PS1 emulators. Why the PS3 item is needed is unclear. You can also customize your profile, for example, emulating the input of PSP, joysticks for “Flying Cars”. Below you can select the necessary lights that will light up on the joystick, test the vibration, and tighten the sticks if there is something wrong with them.

Other

In contrast, in the program you can select a language, including Russian, and connect the joystick via Bluetooth if you have an adapter for a PC, which can be bought at any electronics store.

Congratulations, you can now play all the top games on a PlayStation 3 gamepad. Until next time, there may be more articles of this kind.
