How to block a program from accessing the Internet. How to limit wastage of Internet traffic How to set restrictions on a computer for children

The Internet is full of safe and sometimes even useful educational and entertainment resources that can be used even by children. Unfortunately, there is also a lot of inappropriate content on the Internet that is not intended for children. The second danger is the activity of scammers and hackers; also, some children spend too much time on the Internet, practically not leaving their room in their free time.

Some parents resort to extreme measures - they prohibit their child from using the computer by setting a password on it. However, this does not always lead to the desired result; often children either get offended or throw tantrums. There are many solutions to this problem that will not be perceived so painfully by the child.

Parental Controls from Microsoft - special function, providing protection for children when they use the family computer.

It affects three aspects:

To enable parental controls, you must create a separate account for children. It will allow the child to use only acceptable programs and visit sites approved by parents.

Note! Before creating a new one account Make sure you have a password set on your own. Don't tell it to your child.

Step 1. From the Start menu, open Control Panel.

Step 2. Select "User Accounts" and open the "Manage Another Account" section.

Once your children's account has been created, you can proceed directly to setting up parental controls.

Step 4. Open the User Accounts section of Control Panel again.

Step 5. Now, in addition to your own, the new one you just created is reflected there. Open a child account.

Step 6. Click "Install" parental controls».

Step 7 A new window will open all the parameters that parents can configure at their own discretion.

Step 8 Setting up the computer usage time. Use the cursor to highlight the time when computer work will be prohibited or permitted.

Step 9 Setting up games. First of all, decide whether your child can play games that do not have a rating, and then set the age category that you think is acceptable.

Step 10 From the list of all programs installed on your computer, select those that you can run. Don't flag browsers to restrict your child's internet access.

Parental controls via router

Many modern routers have built-in child control functions. Everything is already provided in advance, users just have to make personal changes.

Step 1. Open your router settings in your browser by entering one of the addresses you see in the screenshot below into the search bar.

Step 2. Enter your username and password.

Step 3. Go to the "Internet" section.

Step 4. From the menu on the left, select Parental Controls. The essence of this function is to introduce restrictions for each individual device that connects to home network.

Step 5. Change the settings by adding a time rule and address filtering. First, create a new time rule.

Step 6. Come up with and enter a name for this rule, set restrictions that satisfy the interval of Internet use. In the "Applies to" section, check only the devices your child uses, which could be a laptop, phone, or tablet.

Step 6. You can also enter multiple URLs which will not open from the devices you select.

Be sure to save all changes and reboot your router if possible. The main advantage of this method is the ability to limit a child’s access to the Internet not only from a computer, but also from any other device that he uses at home. These restrictions will not apply mobile phones and tablets with SIM cards if the child does not connect to Wi-FI.

Control software

In addition to the built-in functions discussed above, there are many programs from third-party developers that also help limit children's access to the Internet.

ProgramImageDescription
This company's first offering in the parental control software market. The program offers filtering based on cloud computing and blocking websites from 70 different categories (drugs, porn, gambling, violence, etc.).

It is possible to create your own lists of prohibited sites based on your needs.
If necessary, most settings can be overridden with a parental password.

The program runs on the latest Windows platforms, MacOS, iOS and Android

The program has a very clear, easy to use interface. Features include: social media monitoring, customized time limits for games or apps, ability to track text messages and calls. The Internet filter recognizes sites with inappropriate content in real time and blocks them.

Questudio runs on Windows, MacOS, Android and iOS. Some additional features(such as game blocking, location tracking, etc.) available by subscription

Functions: Protect those connected to the Internet game consoles such as Xbox One, automatic blocking of fraudulent sites.
The competitive advantage of this program is the ability to apply parental control settings not only to individual devices, but also to the router, which allows you to filter absolutely all traffic that passes through it
It's free software for parental control, it tracks who the child communicates with, what sites and programs he uses. She keeps a detailed activity log.

It does not restrict access, but allows you to monitor your child’s online activities. Unfortunately, not all functions are available in free version, but even without them it remains a fairly well-thought-out tool for ensuring the safety of children

Video - How to add an account and set up parental controls in Windows 10

One of the problems that parents are forced to solve is their child’s access to a computer and the Internet. How much time can a child spend in front of a monitor screen? How long is he allowed to play games? How to make your little user’s time on the Internet safe? Each family answers these and many other questions for itself. However, the fact that the problem of parental controls has long been common is evidenced by the fact that tools for restricting access to applications, games and sites were included in Windows Vista. Similar features have recently appeared in many comprehensive security applications, for example, Norton Internet Security And Kaspersky Internet Security. There are also special programs designed exclusively for parental control. If a few years ago almost all of them were English-speaking, today it is not a problem to find an application designed specifically for Russian-speaking users, which undoubtedly indicates that the demand for similar solutions There is.

Parental Controls in Windows Vista

If you are using at home Windows computer Vista, you can use built-in parental controls.

To do this, the child must have their own account created. It is clear that you do not need to assign administrator rights to it. Next, you need to go to the Control Panel and in the “User Accounts” section, click on the “Set parent controls” link. Next, you need to select the user for whom restrictions will be enabled, and in the “Parental Controls” group, set the switch to the “On” position.

Windows Vista makes it possible to control your child's computer use in four ways: limit the time he spends in front of the monitor screen, block access to certain sites and other Internet services, and prohibit the launch of certain games and programs. In the “Internet Use Restrictions” section, the rules for a child’s access to Internet resources are set; you can also prohibit downloading files.

By default, the medium level of protection is enabled, in which a filter works for sites dedicated to weapons, drugs, pornographic content and containing obscene language. By selecting a custom protection level, you can add to the prohibited categories sites about alcohol, cigarettes, gambling, as well as those sites whose content the filter cannot evaluate automatically. The most severe restrictions on web content occur when using high level protection, when a child can only visit sites that are identified by the filter as “children’s”. Regardless of which content filtering mode is selected, you can create a black and white list of sites, that is, determine which resources a child can or cannot access, regardless of the automatic filter settings. Since the filter does not always work, it is very useful to keep the activity tracking function turned on. In this case, Windows will save the addresses of all sites that the child viewed. If an unwanted address is found in the generated report, it can be added to the blacklist. The time limit settings for computer use are very simple. There is a grid that looks like a school schedule, in which the parent indicates the hours during which access to the computer is prohibited for the child. Restrictions are set separately by day of the week.

In the "Games" section, restrictions on launching games are set. Let us note right away that you should not rely on this section of the settings, since Vista does not perceive some games as such, mistaking them for ordinary applications. The same applies to rating restrictions. In theory, you can specify a rating for games that a child cannot play, but in practice, a child may be running a game that won't be found in the Vista database. That is why it is much safer to use the “Allow or block” section individual programs". It displays all the applications that are installed on the computer, and parents can mark those that the child is allowed to run. The program can be added to the list manually. This approach is good because the child will not be able to run, for example, new game, which he took from a classmate without showing it to you.

Parental controls in Kaspersky Internet Security

Parental controls can often be found in online safety apps. Let's take the Parental Control module in Kaspersky Internet Security 7 as an example. When parental control is enabled, all users are assigned the “Child” profile and, accordingly, the restrictions set for it in the program settings are set.

The second profile - "Parent" - allows you to freely surf the Internet, without restrictions, without turning off parental controls. The first thing you need to do when setting up this module is to select the “Parent” profile and set a password for it. After this, you can turn off parental controls or switch to the “Parent” profile only after entering your password. At Kaspersky help Internet Security 7 allows you to configure access rights to certain sites, mail and other Internet services. Parents can select categories of sites that the child will not be able to access, and prohibit his communication by mail and chats. In addition, you can create black and white lists of resources.

Another option for parental control is limiting the amount of time you can use the Internet. You can set a daily limit for staying on the Internet or set the hours during which you are allowed to use the Internet. However, unfortunately, there is no provision for changing these settings depending on the days of the week.

If a child tries to access a prohibited page, a message is displayed that the site is blocked.

All pages that are visited by a child when parental controls are enabled are recorded in the report. Kaspersky Internet Security 7 does not have the ability to restrict computer work in general, but the program can be successfully used in conjunction with applications such as CyberMama.

CyberMama

Developer: Cybermama
Distribution size: 3 MB

"CyberMama", unlike Kaspersky Internet Security 7, allows you to control the time a child spends on the computer, but does not have tools for filtering web content. After launching CyberMama, the computer can operate in one of two modes - “parent” and “child”. When you first start it, the “parent” mode is set and you can enter a password. It is this set of characters that will be used to unlock the computer after the time allotted for the child to work with it has expired. Using "CyberMom" you can set restrictions on working with the computer, as well as prohibit the launch of certain applications. The parameters responsible for time limits are quite flexible. A schedule is selected separately for working days, as well as for weekends and holidays. In the program settings there is a calendar in which you can mark all holidays. A very thoughtful decision, considering that holidays each country has its own.

Parents can decide how many hours a day the child can work on the computer, allow or prohibit the use of the Internet. In addition, you can allow the use of the PC only during certain periods of time, and for each of such periods, allow or deny access to the Internet. Everyone knows that you need to take breaks while working at the computer, but not everyone adheres to this rule. Meanwhile, this is especially important for a child’s body. Using CyberMom, parents can set the frequency of breaks (for example, every 45 minutes) and their duration. During this time, the computer will be locked. Regarding launching applications, “CyberMama” provides two modes of operation: when the child can launch all programs except those that are blacklisted, and when he can launch only those applications that are whitelisted.

When you switch to “child” mode, an alarm clock icon appears at the bottom of the screen. It shows the child how much time he can still use the computer. However, if desired, the child can disable it by right-clicking on the program icon.

The child can also look at his work schedule - how long he can still work, how long the break will last, etc.

Five minutes before the allowed time expires, a warning appears on the screen reminding you to save all documents. When the program is running in "child" mode, it is impossible to close it from the task manager window - it immediately starts again. Attempts to turn time back are also unsuccessful. Moreover, if a child tries to do something similar, the strict “CyberMom” will immediately record these actions in a report, which the parents will then view. Rebooting does not help get rid of the program either - “CyberMama” remembers that the allowed time has already expired and blocks the computer immediately after startup.

KidsControl 1.6

Developer: YapSoft
Distribution size: 4.4 MB
Distribution: shareware
The purpose of KidsControl is to control the time a child spends on the Internet. The peculiarity of the program is that if a prohibited site is detected or an attempt is made to access the Internet at the wrong time, the child will not be able to load the web page. In other words, the program does not reveal itself in any way - it does not show any warning messages, does not say that the page is blocked, etc., it just displays in the browser blank page"Server not found." KidsControl consists of two modules - the application itself, which is responsible for blocking sites, and the control panel. To enter the control panel, a code is used (yes, it’s a code, not a password). The control panel login window contains buttons from zero to nine, with which you can set the access code. This was done to prevent possible password interception by keyloggers.

The control panel provides several profiles - “child” and “no restrictions”; you can also set profiles for other family members. If a code is not entered when starting KidsControl, the program will start with the “child” profile; to switch to another profile, you need to enter a certain combination of numbers. The code for accessing the control panel and for activating the “without restrictions” profile and others are different things; each profile has its own combination of numbers for access. For a child, KidsControl provides the following restrictions: a web filter by category, black and white lists of sites, a time limit on working on the Internet, and a ban on downloading certain types of files.

Despite the fact that the web filter, according to the developers, is based on a directory consisting of a million sites, our testing showed that it can hardly be relied on. By turning on all filter categories, which even included video and music sites, we freely opened resources from the first page Google search by request "mp3". Pages found for the query “porn” also opened without problems. Therefore, KidsControl is best used in conjunction with Kaspersky Internet Security 7, where the filters are more stringent.

Limiting work on the Internet by time works more correctly - during prohibited hours it is impossible to open a web page or even check email. However, the bad thing is that there is only the ability to create a work schedule, and it is impossible to set the total number of hours that a child can spend on the Internet per day.

Black and white lists work a little differently than in other programs. If you create a white list of sites, this will not mean that the child will be able to visit only these resources, just such pages will not be blocked. When creating black and whitelist sites, you can use the "*" symbol. For example, if you blacklist the string “*tube*”, then the child will not be able to access either Youtube, Rutube, or any other sites whose names contain this combination of characters. However, if you whitelist Youtube.com, it will not be blocked. Finally, it's worth talking about download restrictions different types files. Our testing has shown that it works quite correctly, but it would be nice to add the ability to add prohibited file types manually. For example, KidsControl has the ability to block downloads ZIP files, but RAR archives can be downloaded without problems.

Time Boss 2.34

Developer: NiceKit
Distribution size: 1.6 MB
Distribution: shareware
Time Boss, like the standard Windows tool, allows you to set account-based restrictions. The program window displays a list of all users who have access to the computer. For each account, you can define the account type - “Boss” or “Slave”.

Time Boss allows you to limit the time you use your computer, time spent on the Internet, and also create a list of prohibited programs and folders. The tools for limiting work time are quite flexible - you can set how many hours the user can work per day or per week, specify the hours during which the computer can be used, and create a schedule by day of the week. There are also separate buttons for quickly adding bonus time for the current day or for the weekend. Similar restrictions can be set for working on the Internet. Please note that by default the program perceives only browsers as Internet applications. Internet Explorer, Opera and Firefox, all others must be added manually in the program settings. True, there is a checkbox for automatic detection applications that use the Internet, but it's better to be safe. One of the interesting features of Time Boss is the ability to set the time for using a specific application. With its help, you can limit the time your child spends playing computer games. Time Boss allows you to set system limits. These include: a ban on the use system registry, control panel, task manager, changing the date and time, downloading files through Internet Explorer. In addition, you can disable the ability to search and run applications from the Start menu and set restrictions on access to disks.

Depending on the administrator's preferences, Time Boss can operate in one of two modes - normal and invisible. In the first, the user sees how much time is allotted for him to work by clicking on the icon in the taskbar, but in the “Invisible” mode the program does not reveal itself at all. To alert the user that the time limit has expired, you can enable alerts that will appear five minutes before the end of the allowed time. The warning can be displayed as a text message, picture, or as a system error.

A separate section – “Prizes” – is designed to add additional time to the user while working with the computer or the Internet. If you check the “Disable time limits” checkbox in the prize parameters, the user will be able to use the computer and the Internet, regardless of the set schedule. Time Boss keeps detailed statistics of each user's work on the computer and presents it in a visual form. In the Log you can view all the actions performed by users, and it is possible to filter the logs. For example, only attempts to access prohibited sites or a list of running programs. In addition, statistics on computer and Internet use are provided in text and graphic form.

It is worth noting a very useful ability to create screenshots. Time Boss will take screenshots at set intervals, which can then be viewed in a log. For convenience, you can start a slide show by setting the time for each photo to be displayed on the screen.

However, it is necessary to take into account that by default, screenshots are saved in a very unreliable place - in the Screenshots folder, which is placed in the Time Boss installation directory. To prevent the users you are monitoring from discovering it, you should specify a more secure location and also deny everyone access to this folder. Finally, it is worth noting that getting rid of Time Boss is very difficult - the program is not removed from Startup; when the process is completed, it immediately restarts. To unload it, you need to click the "Prepare for deletion" button in the settings.

Conclusion

Of course, children are sometimes much smarter than their parents, and there is probably no way to stop them from finding a way around the restrictions. Therefore, you should not rely entirely on programs for providing parental control; they will not replace conversations with mom and dad about the rules of behavior on the Internet and why you need a computer. On the other hand, they can become excellent educational assistants, and in combination with live communication about the benefits and harms of a computer, they can provide excellent results.

Another pressing topic for caring parents is limiting the time a child spends on the Internet.

Simple and uncomplicated, no cost, the way I prefer to solve problems.

When looking for ways to limit children from constantly being online, the Internet offered me measures to install on a computer special programs or anti-virus packages with this function, pulling out wires from the PC, to administrative measures “belt”.

Each option has its own advantages and disadvantages and each of them is not ideal. In the case of programs, these are material costs and setting up programs; in the case of administrative and physical influences, these are parental nerves because such methods do not bring pleasure.

A huge drawback of the proposed software is that it only works on the device on which it is installed. Those. on a device that belongs to a child and to which he has access more than his parents, including for attempts to change the software settings or remove it altogether, and sometimes the price asked for such software may be decisive.

A large number of devices with different operating systems, with support for Internet access, exceeds the capabilities provided by software developers (For example simultaneous operation Software for Windows OS, Linux OS, Java, Android, iOS), as well as the parents’ desire to set up “Internet restriction” on all devices on the home network.

Also inconvenience in the “age of consumerism and the victory of marketers” can be caused by the appearance of new devices on the home network, on which it will not be possible to install restrictive software, either due to the lack of desire of the parents themselves to understand, or due to the novelty of the device, blocking software on it may not to be.

On my home network, 12 devices have access to the Internet: phones, tablets, laptops, desktop PC, so the problem of ease of setup and management is very relevant. At the same time, it has been noticed that now a computer without an Internet connection is of little interest to children.

The method I suggest is to configure home router, using the example of TP-Link routers, which have this function even in the cheapest versions.

Advantages of this method:

  • A router is often the only way to access the Internet for all devices on the home network without exception (except when connecting to Internet tariffs from mobile operators on smartphones or tablets with this function). Those. by setting up just one router, you will control all devices at once
  • The router is working, it doesn’t care about the software installed on the devices
  • The router is indifferent to the appearance of new devices
  • The router does not care about “changing the clock” on the PC in order to delay the blocking
  • The router is configured once, with installation complex password to log into the router. Also login and password for connecting to the Internet - worth keeping secret
  • After setting up the router, you can save your settings in separate file
  • When using complex password to the router, the router can only be reset, which will erase all settings for connecting to the Internet. Without knowing the login and password from the provider to connect to the Internet, the router will be just a piece of hardware
  • Logging into the router is only done to configure or change settings. This happens very rarely, the chance of snooping and remembering the password is minimal
  • The fact that the router settings have been reset and there is no Internet “everywhere” is hard to hide
  • Restore Internet settings and parental control changes you made from a file backup copy, takes about one minute, of which 50 seconds is the process of rebooting the router
  • If a child can still bypass all of these options unnoticed by his parents, then he has acquired not the most useless knowledge in his life. 🙂
  • Also, changing the standard login and password for the router will protect some Internet attackers who, using brute force methods, find routers with regular passwords from the Internet

Leveling out shortcomings is up to the parents themselves:

  • Knowing the login and password for the router, you can cancel the changes made (therefore, the password and login should be stored in a safe place)
  • Knowing the username and password for the Internet, you can reset the router and set up access to the Internet again (the router is accessed very rarely, the fact of the reset may not be noticed for a very long time)

Well, the most important thing in any defense is not to indicate how you did it.

TP-Link routers have an IP Address Filtering function, through the configuration of which we will restrict device access to the Internet.

Moreover, we will not create a large list of devices that need to be limited in Internet use. We will create a “white list” of 3 devices with 24-hour access allowed, and any other device not from this list will have time-limited access to the Internet.

The example will consider stopping children’s access to the Internet from 10 o’clock yesterday until 7 am, but based on this knowledge, you can add rules, for example, to stop access at lunchtime, which will encourage the child to “remember to eat” or do some household chores .

The example does not require a high level of computer literacy, is self-explanatory and is not complicated.

Before you begin setup, complete the following steps:

Setting up a TP-Link router

Configuring DHCP and Address Reservation

MAC address— a unique identifier assigned network card devices. The MAC address is permanent and individual for each device.

IN in this example I know the MAC addresses of devices 1,2,3 and belong to devices whose access to the Internet should not be limited.

We will limit the time spent on the Internet for all other devices 4-10.

Copy/write/remember the MAC addresses of devices with ID 1-3. These devices will have a permanent and fixed address on the home network.

The assigned IP address column shows us the address range of our home network - 192.168.0. N. Where N— a number in the range from 1 to 254; by default, DHCP starts issuing addresses starting from 100, i.e. starting addressing from IP: 192.168.0.100.

Image 1. List of devices that received an address from the DHCP service TP-Link router

Let's move on to the point below - Address reservation.

We are adding three devices to which we will not limit access by time.

Press the button Add and fill in the fields in Image 3. We reserve an IP address for a specific device.

Image 2. We reserve IP addresses for certain devices

Press the button Add and in the window that appears, enter the MAC address of the first device, in the example: 10-3B-59-8A-EE-0A, assign the address 192.168.0.10 to this device (we can select any one in the range from 192.168.0. 2 to 192.168.0. 254 , IP address 192.168.0.1 - already assigned to the TP Link router).

Choose StateIncluded for the reservation to work.

Image 3. Reserving an IP address for a specific device

Thus in this list We add all devices that should have unlimited time on the Internet. ( see Image 2. We reserve IP addresses for certain devices).

In the example, 3 devices are added.

Enabling protection and setting up IP address filtering

Let's go to point Firewall and check the boxes opposite:

  1. Turn on Firewall
  2. Turn on IP address filtering
  3. Prevent packets not specified in the filtering rule from passing through the router

Without enabling the first item, the router cannot use any types of filtering, even if they are checked.

The second point will use what we need in the lesson - IP filtering.

Image 4: Turning on Firewall and IP filtering

The third point allows us to use a “white list”, i.e. in my case, allow unlimited access only to specified devices, of which I have only 3 out of 12. If you have 12 devices and only one of them needs to restrict access, you should configure the option Allow access to the Internet to these computers specified in the enabled rules.
Click Save.

Image 5. Adding IP address filtering rules

Let's move on to point IP address filtering, press the button Add.

We create the first rule describing 3 allowed devices.

  • Working hours (rule validity time) from 00 hours 00 minutes to 24 hours 00 minutes, i.e. around the clock
  • IP address in LAN networks. We indicate the reserved addresses of “white list” devices, because I assigned consecutive addresses, I can immediately specify the range 192.168.0.10 to 192.168.0.13 (in fact, it is necessary up to 192.168.0.12, since there are only 3 devices, typo in Image 6)
  • Action - Allow.

Specified time I I allow access For Specified range of IP addresses.

WITH 00 hours 00 minutes to 24 hours 00 minutes, devices with addresses 192.168.0.10, 192.168.0.11, 192.168.0.12, 192.168.0.13 - router Allowed access to the Internet.

Image 6. Adding a whitelist rule

We create a second rule that describes all other (children's) devices.

  • Working hours (Rule validity time) from 07:00 to 22:00
  • IP address on the LAN network. We do not indicate this, this means that the entire possible range of addresses is used
  • Action - Allow.

A logically created rule sounds: in Specified time I I allow access for everyone IP addresses.

WITH 07:00 am to 22:00 pm, Any device - router Allowed access to the Internet.

Image 7. Adding a rule limited time internet for all devices

We check the correct creation of rules, compare addresses and time restrictions.

Logically the router checks:

  1. If Any time, A device addresses match from 192.168.0.10 to 192.168.0.12, That We allow access without checking subsequent rules
  2. If the addresses from the first point do not match the “white list”, then Let's allow access, Any device on our network if now is the time period from 7 am to 10 pm without checking the subsequent rule
  3. If it turns out that the device is not from the “white list” (point 1) or the current time is from 22-00 pm to 7-00 am, we deny access to everyone.

Image 8. Checking the correctness of the rules

Congratulations, the hardest part - creating the rules - has been successfully completed!

Reboot the router to accept the changes

For the changes to take effect, reboot the router.

Select a section System Tools, paragraph Reboot.

Image 11. Restarting the router

The router reboots, you can check the operation of the filtering rules (if the time you specified has arrived), I also recommend rebooting (or reconnecting to the Internet) the devices from the “white list” so that the IP addresses are updated and the router assigns the addresses reserved for them to these devices.

Parental controls. How to limit your child's access to the Internet by time. . Last modified: 2018-09-23 from Yun Sergey

27.03.2017

Limited Internet access is a great solution for many parents. Get carried away with sitting on social networks, online games and viewing unnecessary information, a child can quickly enough. And here parents have a dilemma: how to limit their child’s Internet access while they are not at home or at night when everyone should be sleeping. Currently, for many, this limitation is also an educational process; if you don’t do your homework, you won’t get access to the network.

Why is the Internet dangerous for children?

Children have very inquisitive minds, and they search the Internet for more than just good children's stories. Many parents who have not set internet restrictions for their child find their child watching unnecessary content.

What a child can see online:

  • Information of a sexual nature.
  • Propaganda of concepts and bad habits prohibited in society.
  • Games allowed after a certain age. The fact is that many of the games rated 16+ and above contain scenes of violence, which can traumatize children’s fragile psyche.
  • Fraudsters and criminals.
  • Social media and forums that can absorb a child’s attention and completely take him into the virtual world.

Programs to protect children on the Internet from harmful information

Every parent who wants to limit the Internet for a child first looks for how this can be done. Here they come to the rescue various programs, let's look at some of them in more detail.

  • NetPolice

A program that allows you to disable the display of topics that you do not want to view. In the settings, you can independently select the necessary themes. Available in paid and free versions.

  • ComputerTime

If you want to know how to limit Internet access by time, then this will help you this program. With its help, you can set a clear operating time for the Internet.

  • Salfeld Child Control 20

It will help limit the amount of time spent at the computer. After a certain time, the computer automatically turns off and cannot be turned on again.

  • WindowsGuard

Restricts access to files and programs using password locking.

The problem of how to limit access to the Internet is of interest not only to parents, but also to many entrepreneurs in order to ensure a normal work process, without being distracted by the Internet. In this case, you can use a more complex program. Although it is also suitable for home use.

The Internet Control Server program is a professional gateway with many various settings, allowing you to adjust the Internet supply, including according to time frames.

The program allows you to configure your computer in the following way:

  • You can set up user groups and give them specific rights to use networks. For example, while you need to do homework, the Internet will not be provided or only access to books will be possible, but in the evening, when everything is ready, you can set up a search for games and social networks.
  • You can create various schedules for the operation of devices, connect and disconnect sites, and assign time frames for the operation of certain data storages.
  • Instead of thinking about how to turn off the Internet for children, you can simply reduce the page loading speed.

For its subscribers, the AKADO-Ekaterinburg provider has also provided a means of protecting children on the Internet. We are talking about the BDI (Safe Home Internet) content filtering configuration system. It will allow you to protect yourself and your child from most Internet dangers, such as password theft, malware, obscene sites, etc. You can activate the service by calling 300-20-00 or at personal account in the "Recurring Services" section.

The Internet is not only evil; in the vastness of the network you can find many useful information, but it is better to protect your child from unnecessary sites that can lead to a number of consequences. You can also connect to inexpensive Internet at the AKADO-Ekaterinburg company.

Problem safe internet for children is very relevant these days. The child returns home after school and is completely left to his own devices. While his parents are at work, he can freely play on the computer and use the Internet. The games a child plays can be controlled, the Internet is another matter - in two clicks a child can find himself on the “18+” website and see scenes that go beyond the understanding of even an adult or worse than that find pictures online with scenes of violence, beatings, etc. Which has a negative impact on the child’s psyche, which has not yet had time to fully form.

An older child may be attracted by bright advertisements of various betting sites, online casinos, fortune telling and horoscopes that trick people into sending SMS and much more. We cannot prohibit a child from using the Internet all the time, but try to protect him from negative influences worldwide network. To do this you only need to devote a little time.

1. Standard Windows tools 7 on setting up parental controls.

The first step is to go to the control panel and select “Parental Controls”.

The second step is if we don’t have an account for the child, create one ( regular user). The administrator (you) must have a password set, otherwise the child will quickly bypass the restrictions.

Log in to your account and enter the required parameters.

Options available: time limit, launch games, launch programs.

The third step is setting up the computer work time for each day of the week.

The fourth step is to set a limit for games. It is possible to block the launch of all games or select a category of games that corresponds to the child’s age. Classification is carried out according to the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB). For children of primary school age, games of class “E” correspond to scenes of mischief, and for teenagers “T”, with moderate scenes of violence and swearing, are acceptable.

If the classification does not suit you, you can manually configure the settings for games.

The fifth step is to indicate the programs that the child can run.

To hide potentially harmful content from children while surfing the Internet, special browser add-ons are used. With their help, you can both block access to certain sites and hide advertising that is not intended for children's eyes.

The Opera browser has a website blocking mechanism, but you will have to configure it and add unwanted websites manually. Over time, the procedure will have to be repeated as new advertisements appear, which is not very convenient. For this purpose, there are complex automated solutions with ready-made databases of advertising links and advertisements. By installing such a plugin for your browser, not a trace of advertising will remain, and if something remains, you can always blacklist such advertising.

List of plugins for the most popular browsers.

Opera AdBlock- the plugin is on the website

Adblock Plus - For Mozilla Firefox download on the website

Google Chrome- you can choose AdBlock or Adblock Plus in the app store

3. Blocking unwanted sites.

The above plugins allow you to get rid of advertising on pages, but they cannot block unwanted page content or prevent a child from accessing a particular site. To filter out unwanted sites based on their content, you will need additional browser tools.

Firefox - plugin FoxFilter, download it from

Attention! You do not have permission to view hidden text.

Google Chrome - plugin WebFilter Pro

Attention! You do not have permission to view hidden text.

WebFilter Pro has a large database of sites with dubious content, which has a very positive effect on filtering out and blocking sites with unpleasant images and texts.

In the plugin settings, you need to select categories (adult sites, gambling, weapons and bad habits) by which sites will be blocked. If you consider it necessary, you can additionally block social networks and browser games.

If a child goes online to a site that falls under the selected categories, he will only see the following message.

And to prevent a child from being able to unblock the site and make changes to the filter settings, access to it can be password protected. Moreover, you can specify your email address in the settings. To which notifications will be sent when a child tries to access one or another site from the blacklist.

In conclusion, I would like to say that, unfortunately, WebFilter Pro, no matter how well it works, sometimes still misses sites. Therefore, let's move on to the next steps.

4. Setting up parental controls in antivirus programs.

The parental control function in antiviruses is available only in paid versions. Let's look at setting up parental controls using an example Kaspersky Internet Security

We launch the antivirus by double-clicking on the icon and in the window that appears, select “Parental Control” and set a password to prevent the child from changing the program parameters without the knowledge of the parents. Select an account that belongs to the child. Click the enable button and configure the settings.

The following options are available:

Account settings - configurable appearance(avatar) and you can assign a nickname. You also need to make sure that the (enable user control) checkbox is checked.

Using a computer - you can configure the time spent on the computer; it is possible to strictly specify days and periods of time. IN in this case The child is allowed to use the computer only from 12:00 to 14:00 and from 18:00 to 20:00. And on weekends it is allowed from 11 to 21 hours.

An additional parameter “limit use during the day” - allows you to set the time that the child can spend at the computer during the day. For example, you have set the possible operating time from 11-00 to 18-00, but it is additionally possible to limit the duration by setting the operating time, for example, 5 or 7 hours. And although the time range is 9 hours, the child will be able to spend no more time than this.
You can see your child’s time spent at the computer in reports.

Launch programs - allows you to create a list of programs that will be blocked from launching. The program can also be blocked by time, for example, allowing the use of Skype or some toy only from 17-00 to 20-00

Click on the “Add” button and in the window that appears, select the program we need from the list or indicate the path to its location on the hard drive.

Using the Internet - the function is similar to "Using a computer", we set the time according to which the child can turn on the Internet. You can limit your time, for example, spend no more than 3 hours a day.

Website visits - limit visits to sites that fall under selected categories. Using these settings, your child can be protected from a whole range of negative information on the Internet.

This menu item also allows you to “Block visiting all websites except those allowed in the exclusion list.” In other words, the child can open only those sites that you indicated in the list; others will not be available to him. These sites need to be added to the list by clicking on the "Exceptions" button.

Downloading files - you can prevent downloading of certain types of files. In order to protect against viruses and Trojans, it is recommended to prohibit (programs and archives). Video and music are at your discretion if the Internet is unlimited.

IM correspondence - blocking unwanted contacts in popular chat programs (ICQ, QIP, Mail.Ru, Skype and others).

Social networks - permission to correspond with certain contacts. It will be possible to add a contact only after the child is active on one or another social network. In the reports, you can view correspondence with the selected contact. Social networks contain a lot of information that is not intended for children.

Personal data - a child, due to inexperience, can send personal information to other people: home address, telephone numbers, credit card and much more. By entering the necessary information into the register, you can prevent its transfer to third parties.
To do this, first generate them and click the “Add” button and add them to the list.

Keywords - by making a list of words, for example vodka, gambling, etc. You will be able to track what your child searched for and on what sites.

Parental controls are configured in a similar way on other antiviruses.

5. Gogul - children's web browser.

For primary school students I would like to highlight a wonderful federal program safe children's Internet - Gogul. (

Attention! You do not have permission to view hidden text.

). Having downloaded and installed a component for Mozilla Firefox? You will turn a familiar browser into a nice one children's internet-reviewer. But the main feature of this project allows the child to use useful resources Internet for training and development. To do this, set as home page website

Attention! You do not have permission to view hidden text.

. "The Internet and Children" is a directory of sites intended for children, which are carefully selected and grouped by topic.

First of all, we go to the Gogul website. (gogul.tv) and register to create a personal account. In your personal account, you can set up Internet use schedules, set up a list of allowed sites, view statistics on visited websites, etc.

The second step is to add children's accounts and set up Internet use.

Installing the “Gogul” add-on - download the add-on from the official website Mozilla browser Firefox. (Please download and install this browser first if you do not have it). During downloading, a request for permission to install the add-on will appear - we agree.

After the Gogul installation process is complete, a shortcut to launch the program will appear on your desktop. When you first start you will need to enter the address email and password specified during registration, and then click the “Activate” button

During the launch of the Gogul children's web browser, a list of children's accounts will be clearly displayed and how much time is left available for using the Internet today.

We also recommend downloading from this site small program, which excludes the launch of other web browsers except Gogul, and also has other useful features(restricting access to folders, files and removable media) to restrict a child’s access to a computer.

Let's summarize.

1. To introduce restrictions for a child to work on a computer, you must create a separate account.
2. Use browser add-ons if you do not have a paid version of the antivirus.
3. Use a comprehensive solution by setting up your own antivirus.
4. For children of primary school age, set up children's Internet Gogul.

All this will take you a little time, but you can to some extent protect your child from the negativity of the Internet, as well as control the time spent on the computer while you are at work.

Unfortunately, sooner or later the child will still encounter this problem - with friends on the computer, children at school can be “enlightened” using a tablet or smartphone. It all depends on the parents’ approach to this issue and methods of education. It is necessary to have time to instill the correct moral principles in a child before the “street” teaches him to perceive everything completely differently.
