How to remove autocomplete in chrome. Manage forms to automatically fill in with your information in Firefox. Removing files from downloads

If you use Chrome browser, you probably noticed that it often recommends autofill options for you. Mostly they are on topic, but sometimes they are completely out of context or outdated. Most often they appear in the search bar or various forms to enter text on websites, offering information from another context.

Fortunately, there is a way to remove specific autocorrect options in text input fields, search forms, and other areas of the site. Thanks to the popularity of Chrome, it is available on most desktop platforms, so this instruction will suit not only macOS users, but also Windows, Linux and Chromebook users.

Removing unnecessary phrases for autocomplete

  • Open a site that has an input window that supports autocomplete
  • Start typing a phrase and Chrome will offer you an autofill option.
  • Using the arrows on your keyboard, select the one you want to delete from the proposed results
  • When the desired item is selected (it will be highlighted), press one of these combinations depending on your device:
    • Mac: Shift + FN + Delete
    • Windows: Shift + Delete
    • Chrome OS (Chromebook): Alt + Shift + Delete
  • Repeat these steps for all the phrases you want to remove

The screenshot above shows that the search bar on the site offers a large number of random combinations of words and letters, none of which are related to the site itself and the current open page. Instead, suggestions are made up of old search queries.

How to remove or change other autofill data

You can also change your autofill information directly through Chrome's settings. To do this, copy and paste the following into the Chrome address bar:

chrome://settings/autofill

After that, press Enter. On the page that appears, you can remove any unnecessary and outdated phrases for autofill (or even all at once), and also customize the autofill settings for yourself.

If you've been using Chrome for a long time and think there's too much old data stored in its memory that you no longer need, you can completely clear your cache, browsing history, and other information - including autofill data.

Autofill forms is a feature that allows you to automatically enter personal information into forms on websites, such as your name, address, email or telephone. By default, Yandex Browser autofills included.

Autofill is convenient, but in order to insert your data into forms, the browser needs to store it on your computer. If malware gets onto your computer, an attacker can steal your data. And if during your absence a stranger opens a browser, he will be able to log in to sites under your name or find out your data in another way. Therefore, if you value the security of your data more than convenience, you may want to disable autofill.

  1. Remove autofill data

There are 2 ways to enter data on the registration pages of any sites: manually enter your login and password or use automatic filling fields. Autofilling forms in the Yandex browser is an assistant function that saves user data in the browser storage and, if necessary, retrieves information by inserting it on sites in the appropriate fields. When going to a page with login forms, Yandex Browser independently recognizes and fills them with suitable information.

The principle of operation of the function is extremely simple:

The introduction of user data into the fields of the login form occurs with a high degree of accuracy; any errors in the input are extremely rare. Incorrect data entry may be caused by having multiple accounts on the service, changing or restoring a forgotten password.

Is autofill safe in Yandex browser?

The answer to the question is ambiguous. If you look from a hacker’s point of view, all the data entered into the browser can actually be stolen. Trojan horses are used to steal personal data. The greatest risk is for users who use a computer in public places. When you log into the site, forms are automatically filled in; it’s not difficult to click on the “Show password” function and steal it. True, not all sites have such functionality.

If you compare security Yandex browser with other browsers, there is an advantage here - a secure password storage. Yandex has introduced the “Master Key” function into its product, which is a password for gaining access to the storage of information used to log into sites. Even if you gain access to your computer or steal a file with passwords from the system, you will have to enter a password to decrypt the records.

WITH modern computers based on Asics, cracking simple passwords takes a matter of seconds, but when setting: numbers, various symbols, letters of different case, with a password length of 12 characters or more, we are relatively safe. Decipher so much complex password- an impossible task, it will take months, the hacker will simply abandon the idea.

Important! The greatest danger of theft of logins and passwords occurs when a traffic interceptor enters the system, which sends data not only to the site, but also to the owner of the virus. Such a program easily bypasses blocking with a master key; the only way to combat it is to have an active antivirus in the system. Another point is that the master password must be set separately; it is not used by default.

To summarize: the function is relatively safe, but still has vulnerabilities; it is especially easy to bypass it when gaining physical access to the PC. To store important data, it is better not to use the built-in storage, but to remember passwords in your head or use more safe solutions, such as the LastPass extension.

How to add data for autofill

By default, the data is automatically added to the browser storage; you just need to enter the data on any site. In the future, the substitution will occur automatically. If, after entering information into the browser, the login information has been changed, you will have to manually change the password. Contact information is also added manually.

Important! The browser has a function to save the card number. In general, it is convenient, but if other users have access to the computer, there is a risk of data theft.

Firefox and Chrome are known to be able to remember all the data that the user enters in the address bar, in the search bar, and even in individual fields on various sites. Browsers save this data in the memory of the computer (tablet or smartphone) and substitute it automatically next time. This is called "autocomplete".

The system itself is very convenient and, as we know, saves a lot of time. We type a couple of characters, then the browser offers a ready-made option (address, nickname, details and other data), which you can simply click with the mouse, tap or select from the keyboard, and you no longer need to enter it again.

However, over time, a significant part of such data loses its relevance and/or too many incorrect options are stored in the browser’s memory (missing character, phrase, etc.). Because of them, autofill stops working as it should, and incorrect options have to be deleted. As a rule, one by one and right click.

But if you need to “clean up” the autofill thoroughly, then a problem arises. Since neither the settings nor the settings provide separate sections with lists of autofill options, from which everything unnecessary/incorrect could be removed, so to speak, in bulk.

Therefore, if you need to tidy up your browser’s autofill, you must either delete unnecessary options one at a time, or clear the entire search history, with the obligatory clearing of the data section to be filled in (the option is disabled by default). Actually, this will be discussed further. So:
