If you have an unstable Internet connection, the download is often interrupted and there is a problem with downloading large files using the browser, an excellent solution in this case is free program Download Master. The program has many settings, and to the average user they are not always clear. In this article I will “go through” the most important settings and I’ll explain how to customize Download Master for yourself.

A few words about installation

Installing an application is no different from installing other applications. During installation, you will be prompted to install Yandex components. I don’t know if you need them, but I prefer not to unnecessarily integrate panels and other plugins that I don’t need into the browser. Therefore, I usually uncheck the corresponding boxes during installation. Once the installation is complete, the first time you launch the application you will be prompted to select the speed of your Internet connection. For example, if you have a telephone connection (GPRS), select the appropriate option. If you are connected to your ISP via local network, select one of the last options (DSL/Cable).

Setting up the application

To access the application settings, select the menu command “Tools > Settings...”.

The first branch of settings is “General”. Here, I think, everything is clear. I unchecked only two checkboxes: “Launch when Windows starts” and “Display a floating window (Active Visual Cart)”, since I don’t want the program to start every time I turn on the computer, and the floating window interferes with watching movies in full screen.

By opening the “General” branch, you can see the “Integration” sub-branch. Although there are options for managing browser integration, you can’t disable it from here (I’ll explain below how you can do this another way). In fact, this thread only displays which browsers Download Master is integrated into.

Let's move on to the most important branch "Downloads". In principle, all settings here depend on the choice of connection type when you first launch the application. I would like to say a few words about the first two options from the “Upload Settings” group. The first option allows you to set the number of simultaneous downloads. For example, if 9 downloads are added, then the 9th will wait for one of the eight running ones to complete. The second option allows you to specify how many threads the file will be downloaded into. The more streams, the faster the file will be downloaded. Some sites do not allow downloading in multiple streams, then you should set the number 1 here. You should also set it to one stream if you have a slow connection.

Some will useful options in the "Automation" branch. In particular, here you can choose automatic shutdown from the Internet (for example, for wireless modems) and turning off the computer. I just turned it off automatic update, because I don’t like it when programs are updated without permission.

About browser plugins

Download Master integrates with all browsers installed on your system. Some of the plugins it integrates may be useful for you. For example, I use "Download Master Media Monitor" in Mozilla Firefox(when playing a video on YouTube or music on the VKontakte and Odnoklassniki websites, Download Master displays a link to download the video or music). But there are plugins that, in my opinion, are not particularly useful. For example, as I already said, I don’t like panels in my browser, as they reduce the usable display area of ​​sites’ web content. As I already said, you cannot disable browser plugins in the application settings. In this case, you can disable unnecessary extensions in the add-on settings of your favorite browser. For Mozilla browser Firefox needs to go to “Menu > Add-ons” and click on the “Disable” button next to unnecessary add-ons.

Using the application

If you decide to leave the Download Master plugins in your browser, then to download the file, right-click on the link and select the “Download using DM” option.

Select a location to save the download (you can remember it for the future by clicking the button that looks like a folder with a push pin) and click the "Start download" button:

If you, like me, have disabled all plugins, then right-click on the file link in the browser, select the “Copy link” command, open Download Master and click the “Add Download” button.

The download dialog will appear with the link already inserted. If suddenly the link field is empty, insert it manually. Next, do the same steps as described above.

Download from Chrome (Opera and other browsers based on the Chromium engine) with using Download Master simply by clicking on links to files. Disable or enable the interception option in the extension menu, change minimum size files that will be downloaded via Download Master in the extension settings.

The extension adds the ability to download using Download Master specified file or a group of files from context menu Google Chrome. After installing the extension, it is added to the browser context menu new section Download Master with the items "Upload link" and "Upload ALL links".

After installing the extension, right-click on the link (example link) and you will see a menu in which 2 new items have appeared:

Select an item Upload link if you want to download the selected file.
Select an item Download ALL links if you want to upload several files located on this page.
Select an item Remote upload if you want to transfer a file to Download Master remotely.

When you go to a page with videos, if the video service is supported, the Download Master extension button changes its appearance. After clicking on it, the “Upload video” item appears in the menu; by clicking on it you will upload the video to Download Master.

If you select text on the page, right-click and select "Find selected on topdownloads.ru". A page with search results will immediately open and you can download the desired files.

!!! The extension is not included in the standard Download Master installation package. Install it from the Chrome Extension Store yourself.

Unfortunately, the standard downloader of the Chrome browser cannot download the file after restarting the browser. It turns out that downloading large files using it is problematic. This problem is solved by various download managers, for example, Download Master, which I consider the best. That's just Chrome browser unlike other popular browsers, it does not yet support integration with DM. In the DM integration settings there is an item "integration with Chrome", but this item is not active and does not work... How to fix this? Easily!

To enable integration, do the following:

1. Find in the folder Download Master the file "npdm.dll" and simply copy it to the folder "c:\Documents and Settings\Your Account\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\Plugins\";

2. Now the “Chrome integration” item in the DM settings is active!

3. Restart Chrome.

All. Now the integration is the same as in other browsers.

You can install the Download Master extension for Chrome or for some other browser using the settings installed on your computer.

Integration procedure

First you need to run the Download Master program on your computer as an administrator and go to the settings.

To open settings in Download Master you need to click on top menu program to the “Tools” button and select “Settings” in the context menu that appears.

A program window called Program Settings will open. In this window, go to the tab General — Integration. On the Integration tab, first check the box Track URL on clipboard. Then, at the bottom in the “Other browsers” paragraph, check the box for the browser into which you need to integrate Download Master and the page will immediately open in the browser, but do not forget to click the “OK” button in the program.

On the page that opens in your browser, you will be asked to install Download Master for free. You need to press a button Add to (name of your browser). As soon as the extension is installed, you will need to restart the browser.

Now, using the extension, you can search for the link of the selected video that suits you. To do this, select the name of the selected video and right-click on it and select from the context menu Download Master And Find the selection on topdownloads.ru.

It will open for you new page in the browser where all files with similar names will be located and you just have to select the appropriate one.
