Bluetooth does not see dualshock 4. How to use a PS4 controller on a PC. Connecting a joystick using a Bluetooth adapter

When Sony first announced that DualShock joystick 4 will be compatible with Windows OS, gamers all over the Internet welcomed the news. Unfortunately, you won't always be able to simply connect it to your computer and start playing. Although the PS4 controller is recognized by Windows, existing games may glitch or not work automatically with it.

Windows supports the use of the PS4 gamepad for PC, but since Microsoft has its own console, they officially only support their controllers, and dual shockers will have to dance a little with a tambourine.

What do you need to connect?

  1. Actually the controller itself.
  2. Standard USB cable.

After connecting the gamepad, it will be recognized by the system and you may even be able to use it in some applications and games (for example Steam and some toys).

If you simply connect the device to your computer, then some of the joystick’s functions will not work, such as:

  1. touchpad(but works like a button),
  2. gyroscope,
  3. vibration,
  4. built-in microphone and speaker,
  5. headset jack.

How to make the gamepad work correctly?

Here you have only one option - to use special software, namely:

  1. drivers;
  2. joystick emulator (Xpadder).

It is worth understanding that when connecting a PS4 joystick to a PC, you only need to use one of two options; which one is up to you. Let's talk about everything in order.

1) Dualshock 4 drivers for computer

In most cases, using modern operating system, for example Windows 10, no drivers will be required and the joystick will be recognized automatically.

However, this may not always be so smooth, and for such cases when the gamepad will not be recognized or will be recognized with errors, there are at least two drivers:

Moreover, the second grew out of the first, when it was still at the testing stage. You can download the drivers using the links above, or by visiting the official support threads: one, two.

In addition to the drivers themselves, you need to check if the following components are installed on your system and install (or update) them if necessary:

  1. Latest version of DirectX;
  2. Last official version Microsoft Xbox 360 Controller Driver;
  3. Administrator rights.

Before installing all components, you should close all applications and games that may be using the controller. Also, if you previously installed a driver for Dualshock 3, you should remove it. If you want to use the gamepad via Bluetooth, you need to install the appropriate drivers for it too.

Installation procedure for DS4Tool:

  1. In the archive there is a Virtual Bus Driver folder, in which we install the ScpDriver.exe file (this is the driver itself).
  2. After installing the driver, run the ScpServer.exe file (located in the root of the archive).

Once the installation is complete, connect your DualShock 4 to your computer via USB or Bluetooth. Keep in mind, USB is a much more reliable choice as some Bluetooth chipsets do not support it software. The controller is recognized in the application (ScpServer), and in most cases functions identically to the Xbox 360 device. However, some games have compatibility issues, so you may need to check the "Hide DS4 Controller" checkbox.

By clicking on the “Settings” button, you can open a window with several sliders. Here you can change the color and intensity of the DS4's light bar, switch it to a battery indicator, set vibration, and enable the touchpad to control the mouse pointer.

You can watch this video to make it clearer:

During the making of the video, more than early versions drivers, which is why there is such a discrepancy in size - the author talks about ~700kb, when the current version is already more than one megabyte. Please remember that the application is a work in progress. Currently, you need to manually launch the program every time you want to launch the game. This may be fixed in future updates.

2) Using the joystick using the Xpadder program

First, let's figure out what kind of software this is. Xpadder is a joystick emulator program for your computer. Currently it supports several hundred controllers from different manufacturers, which makes it absolutely universal in terms of use. And of course it’s suitable for our dual shock from PS4.

This method has two undeniable advantages:

  1. no drivers needed;
  2. You can customize each joystick button to suit your needs.

But there are also disadvantages:

  1. it will take a lot of time to understand the essence of the application and configure everything as it should;
  2. The program is officially paid (but you can very easily find a free version).

The video below shows the setup for an Xbox joystick, but since the program is universal, the steps described are also suitable for your DS4.

Dualshock 4 newest model family of Sony gamepads designed for game console PlayStation 4. However, unlike the first gamepads in this line, the Dualshock 4 connects to a PC quite easily. We will tell you how to connect it to your computer and use all the functionality.

Options for connecting Dualshock 4 to PC

There are two main methods Dualshock connections 4 to a computer - wireless (via Bluetooth) and wired (via USB cable). It is important to note that the main thing is considered to be wireless connection. So, let's look at each of the available options.

Method 1: Dualshock 4 USB Wireless Adapter

Sony has greatly simplified the task of connecting its gamepad to a computer by releasing a special accessory. He looks like this

Thanks to this adapter, you can connect a Dualshock 4 gamepad to your PC or Mac. To do this, you will need:

  1. Buy the adapter itself.
  2. Connect the accessory to the computer following the attached instructions.

This method is preferable because thanks to it you will be able to use all the functions of the Dualshock 4 - vibration motor, touchpad, gyroscope, headset jacks and the actual wireless mode work. In addition to this comes the ability to use a gamepad for PlayStation Now ( cloud service, which allows you to play games on your computer with PS3 and PS4).

Method 2: Connect via Steam

This method is a little more complicated, but allows you to do without buying an expensive adapter. To use it, do the following:

    1. Login to Steam
    2. Click on the controller icon in the top right.

    1. When Big Picture Mode opens, go into the settings for that mode.

    1. In settings go to "Controller Settings".

    1. Check the box "PS4 Controller Support".

    1. Then connect your Dualshock 4 in any way (via cable or Bluetooth). Once you do this, Steam will automatically open a personalization window in which you can configure, for example, the actions and sensitivity of the gyroscope, and also reassign the gamepad keys.

Same as with DualShock 4 USB Wireless Adapter, you also have access to all the functionality of your controller. The disadvantages of this method are the need to pre-set up most of the games that you have in your Steam library, as well as the inability to use DualShock 4 in PlayStation Now.

Method 3: DS4Windows Drivers

This method is more complicated than both previous ones and is designed more for an advanced user. It consists of installing special drivers that will allow games to recognize the Dualshock 4. To do this you will need:

    1. Download DS4Windows. Before doing this, make sure you have installed latest versions Microsoft. NET Framework and DirectX, and also has administrator rights.
    1. Unpack and run. The following window will open in front of you:

    1. Be careful - point "Install DS4 Drivers" You only need to click if you have Windows 8 and higher! If you have Windows 7, click the second item.

    1. Wait for the drivers to install and restart your computer.
    2. Launch DS4Windows again and connect your Dualshock 4 in any convenient way.
    3. Next you will have to configure the management profile. We will not dwell on it in detail; this is material for a separate article. Just take a look at the screenshot:

Let us repeat - this method is designed for an advanced user. If this method is too complicated for you, you can use methods 1 and 2.

Method 4: Simple connection

The simplest and at the same time the most inconvenient way to connect Dualshock 4 to a computer. To do this you need:

  1. Find any microUSB-USB cable.
  2. Connect the cable to the gamepad.
  3. Connect the gamepad to the PC.

Most likely, Windows will recognize the new gaming device and it will work. However, this connection method imposes a number of limitations:

  1. Dualshock 4 is recognized as a DirectInput device. DirectInput is an outdated interaction method that will only work in older games.
  2. Additional Dualshock 4 functionality (such as vibration and touchpad) will not be available.

However, if you plan to play time-tested classics, this method is completely your choice.

We showed you the most popular and convenient ways connecting the Dualshock 4 gamepad to the PC. Each of them has different functionality and its own characteristics. Try each of the proposed methods - we are sure you will find one that suits you. We hope we helped you!
